So what do you have in your office or mini systems?

After seeing Marker's thread about what should be an excellant office system, what have the rest of you all got in your offices, work out rooms, game rooms, etc.?

As for my office, JBL S38II speakers, Adcom GCD-600 cd changer, Adcom GFA-5400 power amp, and an Adcom GTP-600 tuner/pre-amp.

Might eventually get a small sub, but the JBLs go down into the 40 HZ range on their own.

Might also pick up a Polk XM tuner at some point

Right now I have LSi7's being fed off of an Adcom passive pre, HK PA5800 Amp and I'm rotating out CDP's. The ADS' I just picked up from Doro will be replacing the 7's sometime.

JDH, how does the LSis match up with the HK amp? Is it kind of "dark" sounding?

    Do patio systems count?

I have a Yamaha receiver (60watts I think) with a Tosh 3950 doing CD duty (and occasinal music video duty), and an XM home cradle so I can move my Delphi from the garage to the patio. I have Advent Calypso speakers.

    It's a nice little system.

Faster it's a private contactor business, so they will pretty much let us have what we damned well please. My room is kind of small though, probably about 10' X 10', and the JBLs go pretty low as it is, so I kind of doubt that I will even ever get a sub. But I was thinking the little $100 Dayton might be a nice pick up though, especially since the Adcom tuner/pre does have a sub out. It is an old pro logic only piece from the early 90s that I use for 2 channel only now cause according to Adcom tech support, it was identical to the GTP-450 in that regard. The 450 does not have a sub out.

My office is 12X14 with a door so as long as I don't blast anything, I'm fine.

As for the LSi's and HK, no problems that I've noticed. They do sound a bit livelier on the carver on 2-channel, but overall performance is on par for what you expect form both brands.

Before I got moved to another desk with less overall desk space, I had ample space for a stereo. I was also sitting in a building with nothing but 4 other poeple and my massive lab space there. Now I have to sit in a cube farm and I had to give up the stereo 'cause it wouldn't fit comfortably on my desk.

When I had the stereo it was thus:

    Minetek DVD-1600 DVD/CD player
    Onkyo T-4210 Tuner
    Behringer TUBE ULTRA-Q T1951
    Heathkit AA-32 intergrated tube amp
    Carver C-1 Preamp
    KLH Model 22's

Nothing special in the way of wires and just regular RadioShack interconnects. I was using the Heathkit as an amp only because the connections for the inputs were pretty crappy due to age. I had the EQ set up as a shelf crossover to help improve bass response without having to turn the volume up to excessive levels. It sounded good and provided ample power to play the tunes over whirring and beeping machines and the noise made by the AC systems.

Polk R15's and a Luxman R-113 receiver. MP3 jukebox as a source. It's a very noisy environment, as it's a small block-wall room with a steel door, and we have (7) 4u servers in a rack, as well as a large core switch and some workstations. That's a lot of fans :). The R15's do a great job.

Doro that $100 Dayton sub would be hard to beat for the money. I'm curious how much the SVS mini-subs will run for when they come out.

BS1 - Ya, that would be cool no doubt. I'm actually really into a tiny subwoofer as in the Sunfire deal, but I'm not paying that kinda overpriced money for this stupid computer room....that's why the lil' SVS has me interested.

I'm hoping it will be in the <350 range....but we'll see I guess.

I was going to build a subwoofer, using an 8" Polk driver, but quickly got lazy. I'll do DIY later is the attitude of the day :)

It actually makes my life alot easier...I gained alot more floor space within the actual room...door never is shut unless the compu is shut down 100%..

As for the sub, I like it, and I gotta remind myself constantly to keep away from it (feet, etc)

    Probally should make a grill...

There is 4 6.5" woofers in it, the front driver is the PR

    Home Office -

    Onkyo TX-8211 "Receiver"
    Onkyo DX-702 CDP
    Polk Monitor 5B's

Someday I'm going to get some "real" power in this setup. Man, it just sucks to turn this up and hear the receiver straining. Bought it to "fill the gap" for the time being. Damn, the 5's deserve more than that!!!!!!!

Actually I’m currently working on my office system. I will be using my computer as a “transport”. I just purchased an AMC- Dac8 digital to analog converter to convert the digital stream coming out of my sound card. I also just purchased a pair of Athena AS-B1 bookshelf speakers. Not sure what to power them with yet. I’ve been looking at NAD, AMC, Cambridge, Pioneer Elite and HK. So far I’ve kept this an ultra-budget system and should complete it for less than $500. I spend a lot of time in my home office/computer room and will be ripping music to FLAC files to play as well as regular cd’s.

I just got the Athena’s and will evaluate them on my main system for the next few weeks. If I don’t like them I’ll take them back. But I have a feeling they will do just fine for what I need. I’ve always owned Polk so I thought I’d try something different. If they don’t work out I’m not sure what I’d get.
