THE NEW (or old) MUSIC REVIEW

Todays review comes to us by Universal A&M Records.

QUEEN LATIFAH
the dana owens album

I was hesitant to purchase this cd for many reasons. First of all, what the hell is an old rock n' roll/blues fan like myself doing purchasing a disc that features a woman known in the rap world as, confident, in your face, all knowing, no ****, take it or leave it artist? Good question, but from what I saw while watching "The Queen" deliver a flawless, somewhat hip version of Lush Life on the Oscars, I knew it just might be worth the price of fighting that evil sticky tape that somehow gives you the feeling of victory and a job well done when your finally able to open that small jewel case.

My first impression from the first riff played on what is defenitly a stand up bass was..."WOW, now this sounds like a VERY well recorded album." , believe me...it is!
I couldn't help but think about all those die hard lucky **** that are privillaged to own a pair of vintage Polk speakers. (you know the ones with that funny cable that connects the two for a beautiful "SDA" affect?") You know who you are!
;)

Each song that played drew an even wider smile on my face...bouncing from a classic love song to the Mama and Papa's California Dreaming, which "The Queen" delivered in her own very cool version, flawlessly. Not to overlook the great musicians that created the backdrop for this vocal masterpeice.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this disc sounds, but I will just cut to the chase and say...IF your a fan of beautiful music, blues and a touch of funk (just a touch) and want to make your system shine...don't hesitate to give it a try.

Bj

p.s. BlueMDpicker, this one needs to go on your list!
