sales jerk
Hey guys, I could use your help.
I have a buddy at work who has a pair of rti8's and is running them with a 100x2 yamaha reciever. He is /was very happy with how they sound. I listened to his system and thought it sounded great. Here is the problem. He had a neighbor who is a B&W salesman come over and run down his system and told him that he was in need of an upgrade. He said that the cabinets on his polks are vibrating and causing distortion ( I didn't hear this) and started to throw around a bunch of specs and fancy speaker words.
Alright here is my question. Does anybody have an opinion on what an upgrade from the rti8 to a pair of b&w DM 604 S3 or DM 603 S3 would be? This is only for 2 channel music.
It sure sucks that someone has to tear down somebody's rig to make a commission check...............
Thanks for all opinions.........................kevin

If your friend is happy with his system, he should simply tell the guy that he is not interested upgrading his speakers just so that his neighbor can get a commission from the sale.

I've yet to hear a B&W speaker that I've liked.Political Correctness'.........defined

opus,
Sounds like a piss-ant trying to impress someone with his vast knowledge." You nailed it yourself, he sells B&W, therefore it's better than Polk. If your friend had Klipsch the comments would have been the same. He's not the type of sales guy you want to be dealing with for any upgrades. -
Tell the B&W salesman to shut the F up or you will externally mount one of his eyeballs for better clarity and resolution.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

You said your friend is happy with what he's got, that pretty much says it all. If he's happy, then why change?
If the salesman is so confident in his product, he should be able to arrange for your friend to have some time (several days) in his home with comparable B&W speakers with no obligation to buy. Let your friend decide what he likes best.
I wouldn't say B&W is better, they just have a different sound. They're a bit over priced also. Hopefully he won't buckle under pressure from the salesman.
Oh, and any salesman that has to rag on anyones gear to make a sale is not worth the time or money. -
Sounds like he could'nt make it in the used car business. Some final words,
"If you keep banging your head against the wall,
you're going to have headaches."

Have old numbnuts bring his B &Ws over to your friends house for a Polk vs. B &W shootout.
Then when your finished tell him his B & Ws sound like pure ****.

Like the other members said, tell him to shut the F up. His comment about the cabinet is pure stupidity! The cabinet quality on the RT series is superior to others in the same price range.
Yes the B&W sound is different but it doesn't mean that your friend will like it more. Personally, I love the sound of B&W but I also love the sound of Polk's RT series.

OR tell your buddy to tell the Beemer man that he's interested in a pair of B&W but won't buy from him because of his cocky attitude.

Sounds like the neighbor's greed is causing audible distortions to come out of his mouth.

Thanks for your responses.
Safe too say there will be no B&W speakers being purchased. My buddy read the posts, laughed, and then signed up as a new member to Club Polk.
And to Doro............Your response gets my vote for "comment of the year". I'm still laughing.

What crack was that guy smoking? If this guy just bought those RTi8's and they were in fact vibrating (I HIGHLY doubt they were) then he shouldn't buy new speakers but contact the manufacturer about warranty issues. I can promise you that Ken and company would have a brand new set at his front door before he could hang up the phone! AND they'd probably pay for return shipping for the broken pair!
Dude, this neighbor guy, I sure hope nobody in your circle of friends calls him "friend". If so, drop this asshat like a bad habit! If he makes an issue of it shove your foot so far up his **** he can smell your toes!Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
I'm curious as to how one could even find out a route cause of distortion jsut from a listen.
"hmmm... I hear distortion in your system. It's coming from your cabinets not being braced properly. You need to replace those speakers."
LOL, cracks me up reading stories like this.
