Yamaha RX-V2500

Hi:
I have
Monitor 60s for fronts
Monitor 40s for rears
Monitor cs1 for center
Monitor PSW10 for a sub
Extra pair of Atrium 45s might use for 7.1
Is the Yamaha RX-V2500 a good reciever for HT and music? Heard there are problems with Yamaha's being to bright.
Also I want to buy locally (so I can take it back if I don't like it). And my only other choices are Onkyo and Pioneer. Also keep in mind that I don't want to spend over $1200 on a reciever. (Gotta save some cash for a bigger sub)

If you don't have access to a Denon, then I'd recommend the Onkyo 702. I know it's only around $750 but Onkyo's 801 is not as good of a receiver as the 702 (it's technically an older receiver so the features are not there but you get Net-tune which is pretty cool). I'd really like to say get the 901 but honestly, that's a ton of money for very little gain IMO. Onkyo needs to get off their asses and complete their new lineup. They did on the 500, 600 and 700 series but left the 800 and 900 as old models thus not having better/newer features.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
I was thinking a denon 2805 or 3805 but I don't think I can find a reseller unless I drive like 200km. What's the current price on a 2805 or 3805?Current Setup:

US$900 for the 2805 and $1200 for the 3805. That's MSRP from Denon which a lot of retailers sell at.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

The 3805 has the programable LCD remote right? Seems like it would be kind of hard to find the buttons when you need them. Also does a Denon seem to make your speakers bright? My polks are kind of bright already and combined with my cheap JVC it gets kind of painful sometimes.Current Setup:

The Remote is awesome. It's not hard to find anything IMO but what remote is hard to understand after you use it for a few weeks?
As for the sound, Denon IMO is by FAR the best sounding receiver for the money (not getting into the Rotel, B&K, Sunfire pricing). Over Onkyo, HK, Yamaha etc; they have the most depth to them and by far the most natural warm sound. I feel HK is probably the next best but they just seem very flat to me. Onkyo is close to Denon as well in depth but way to bright/aggressive for me. Yamaha... well, I wouldn't run a yamaha if it was free. I can't stand the sound from those things. Much like Bose, they seem to overprocess EVERYTHING! Even stereo loses it's detail because of the damn processor in this. The amplifiers aren't to bad but the processor kills it. I'd personally take one of those high end JVC's over a Yamaha.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

How is the 2805 then? I think th 3805 might be a bit out my price range unless I wait about 10 months. My JVC sucks and I don't think I can wait.Current Setup:

the 3805 is a big increase in sound IMO. Going from one to four power supplies, upgraded audio processors all the way around, Denon Link, better looking with the panel to cover all the buttons, and the remote is SO much better. The 2805 is better than all in it's class but the 38 is a well spent jump. My only complaint is the 3805 doesn't come with the mic ($60 extra) but the 28 has it included. WTF?Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Cool I can find the 3805 for $1850 Can at a stereo store 200km away and I think I can talk him down to 1400-1500. So maybe I will just wait 8 months and try to find a sale and talk them down some more. Don't want to buy used as I would like to have warrenty on something that expensive.Current Setup:

IMO, that's a heck of a lot of money for a receiver. I'd go with the 2805 and buy yourself an external amp when you can afford one. Receiver's don't retain their value very well either.SDA-2a, Anthem Pre-2L, Anthem Amp 1, MF A324 DAC, Rotel RCD1070

Receiver models are usually replaced every year. Their value drops considerably after being purchased.SDA-2a, Anthem Pre-2L, Anthem Amp 1, MF A324 DAC, Rotel RCD1070

I have a 2802 with the main preouts going to a Musical Fidelity A3 integrated amp. My plan is to separate my 2 channel system from my Home Theatre and get some Rotel amps to power the front stage of my surround setup.SDA-2a, Anthem Pre-2L, Anthem Amp 1, MF A324 DAC, Rotel RCD1070

I paid C$1,680 about 6 months ago. It must be cheaper now. I think you will do fine with the 2805 too. The specifications are similar enough, just slightly less power and no Dlink.

I like Yamaha's sound on their higher receivers. Since the 2500 is local, why don't you try it. If you don't like it, you can easily return it, and then try the Denon if you want.

I own a Yamaha RX-V1500 and it works for me. Everyone has their own personal preference. You are lucky, you can demo the product. Give it a try.Michael

Happy RX-V1500 owner here, too. I use mine with LSis. No problems, sounds great. I don't find it 'bright' or painful.Yamaha RX-V1500 // Outlaw Audio M200 (x2) Panasonic TH-52PZ700U
