Something old, something new

I've never posted to a forum, so please bear with me.

Back in 1981, I purchased a set of RTA12Bs and have enjoyed them ever since. My wife and I are finally finishing the basement to add a home theater. I am interested in going to 5.1 and eventually to 7.1, and I'm wondering if the LSiCs and LSiFXs will work well with the RTA12Bs.

The receiver that I will be using is the DENON AVR3805 couple with a Denon DVD3910.

Any insights/opinions are welcome and appreciated.

I don't think you'll be too pleased with that combo. the Vifa tweeters in the Lsi's won't be a good match to your RTA's. You might want to consider all Lsi's or use RT/RTi speakers if you want to keep the RTA's in the mix.

My obvious concern was the timbre matching of the speakers. I should have stated in my original post that I am considering LSi fronts some time in the future, but the money tree is getting barren. I have a very good subwoofer (Klipsch KSW 300, 15" - 300 watt). Which model fronts should I consider?

The size of the home theater will be 15'W by 25'L, with sheetrock over concrete walls and carpet over concrete floor.

If your future plans include upgrading to the LSi series then the 15's make sense. It's all about budget really, if you can afford to get everything at once it simplifies the process of setting up an HT that performs well for both movies and music. Keep in mind that the LSi's are power hungry and will perform to their fullest if given ample power. Plan on a seperate amp or a receiver that is capable (RE: Rated for a 4 ohm load) of handling them. Don't ditch the RTS's, they've already proven themselves as far as 2 channel performance is concerned.

If the LSi's aren't in the picture for quite some time, RTi70's or RT800i's would work quite well with the RTA's. Hopefully some of the vintage speaker guru's will chime in and confirm or just point at me and giggle.:)
