input on sub which one

On the sub there is an input which is RCA and anxover which is RCA the input uses the sub xover and the xover uses the receivers or vice versa. now I tried the one with receiver xover and it's set at 80 but cannot controle the volume on the sub, can only turn it dwon on the receiver by lowering the sub volume. If I use it the other way my thought was to use the receiver xover but turn the xover all the way up which is 100hz but the receiver's is 80. this gives me controle to the volume on the sub.

What sub are you using? Never seen one that doesn't let you control the volume on the sub if you use a different input.

it's the energy S10.2 there are 2 inputs on the back, on that doesn't use the sub xover but then no volume controle has to be lowered at the receiver, the other lets me controle the volume and xover, so I use that one and turn the xover all the way up to 100(max) receiver's at 80.
