swivel mounts for tweets

Theres got to be some better swivel mounts for the polk tweets.
Theres not much swiveling to be done when you use them.
Mine are mounted in my mirror sail. I would like to be able to point them up more ... well up and back. Any tips?

i found this copper strip that has a bunch of holes in it at Home Depot. put the tweet in the flush mount and screw it into the copper strip and you have a relatively flexible mounting point that you can twist and bend at will, and is easy to mount, cause it has holes. the strip is a bit difficult to cut, but a vice and a hacksaw make it easy. using wire cutters, like i had to, made it rather rough going.

do you have pics? I'm also interested in something like that so I can aim my tweets better.

Im suprised youre having trouble. I think these swivel mounts are pure genius. Granted they dont have a whole lot of movement but my tweets are also mounted in the mirror sails and my sail panels point down so my tweets would to were it not for the swivel mounts. I have enough room to aim them directly at each other or at the opposite head rest and it works fine.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Well.... i had them point at the head rest but.... it just didnt sound too good when i turned it up so ive pointed them up and it sounds great. Well its not exactly up jus not aimed at my ear or the passengers ear. the treble was a lil painful

I cant remember what speakers youve got but if youve got the MM6 then yup, they are mighty loud. Actually the only way I recommend MM6 is if youre going to bi-amp them. That about the only way you can tune them properly. Thats also their biggest downside. The x-over has only 1 set of inputs which means you have to run the mid full range and they sound like **** full range.
You can either buy another MM6 x-over at $50 each  or build your own. Its a pain in the **** but its worth it.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

bam, if your tweets are too loud, perhaps you should turn them down on the xover? failing that, on the HU? cause aiming them straight at your head will provide the best imaging, and aiming them a little bit above you will bring your stage up a bit, if needs be.
and mac, shouldn't the proper combination of HU and amp xovering do it?It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

I have them turned down on the xover to -6. When i say they are loud I dont mean bright. Is just too much trebel right in my ear. Its kind of anoying. First I thought it was just me then my wife got in the truck and said the same thing.
-
i would never point the tweeters straight at my head, it will provide for decent soundstage but poor imaging

Pointing the tweeters at your head depends on the vehicle. In my truck it localized the sound quite bad. Ive found the best image was with both tweets pointing at each other. The stage remained the same, right above the dash.
With the MM6, I tried all kinds of configurations and running them straight wired, I never could get it to sound as good as I can bi-amped. The tweeter is just too loud and it does make things sound thin. Now my tweets sounds just right but by not being able to x-over the mids properly, things still sound thin cause the mids seem to roll off well above the point they are capable of playing smoothly. As a result, some cymbals sound like trach can lids and some snares sound very brassy and $100 is too much for another set of x-overs.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

so your recomending i should biamp it to get the best sound?
-
Yes. Straight wiring wont make your sound suck, most people do not bi-amp and they get fine results. I just think the added flexibility of tuning your tweeters output will allow you to find that sweet spot a little more accurately than the 0, -3 and -6 db attanuators.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

i finished it in 2 sittings but it's a good thing to have to go back on.
but it's not really a book you read from cover to cover. i just happen to like reading and got hooked.
anyways mac... do you have you speakers BLAMPED?
-adamcats.vans.bag... -
LOL!! You betcha!
Ill be a bi-amping fool from now on. I got turned on to it by accident.
My previous amp was an Alpine 40x4 and I was running my Momo 6x9s and Infinity 5.25's off it. I wanted more power to my Momos so I first tried bridging the front and rear channels but it sounded like crap so I tried bi-amping on a whim. At first it was way too treble high but when I fidgitted with the gains I found the sweet spot and my 6x9s sounded better than they ever had before. I was sold.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Mac - I don't know how good the xover is on your crossfire amp, but you could you bandpass your mids this way: set the low-pass on your HU and then high pass w/ your amp, or vice-versa.
Bam - I do have the flush mounts I'm not using. PM me if you're interested.

My h/u doesnt have a crossover.
My Crossfire amps have a variable x-over from 50-500 Hz low/high pass.
Ive got my cut at 70 Hz but I need to low pass them at 3500 Hz. Right now I have the gain on my tweets set a little higher and the treble on my h/u set to -4 centered on 10K Hz. This seems to help.
I also inverted the phase on the tweets today for a trial run and that seems to thicken things up although it seems to muddy the detail a smidge. Ill give it a day or two of listening to see if it works.
I also tried wiring the left channel out of phase with the right in the hopes of pulling the center of my stage more to the right. It did but it also pulled the left stage to the right.
