Figured since there's been some discussion of "near field" listening, I'd give 'er a shot. Driving my Monitor 5jr's with a Pioneer SX-450 receiver (15wpc). They definately dwarf my 17" LCD, and buckle my desk.
They don't quite have the bass response that they did when I had the sub hooked up, but having them that much closer to my head has made a difference. Pics-

May not be the best setup, but I'm hearing a lot more detail with these speaks now, especially out of the tweeters. Perhaps the Peerless replacements aren't quite up to par for long-distance listening. They sure aren't my SL2500s....
For those worried about the desk, once we move into the new house, it will be replaced by my old love, which is unfortunately in storage for the time being-

Those 5 jrs look similar to mine, except I don't have the peerless. I'll bet yours sound better.

My 5jr's had the SL1000 tweeter, originally, but I replaced them with the Peerless replacement that you could buy from Parts Express at the time for $30/tweeter. Unfortunately, they've decided to discontinue them for quite some time now
My old SL1000s are with hotwheelman (I think he still has 'em, at least), as I shipped them to him and he was able to fix them rather easily. I never really got to hear the SL1000's, because they were not making very good noise at the time that I purchased these speaks
I was just noticing how beat-up the corners are on these cabs, though. They really look like crap. Plus the bottom of one of them has written in black ink "$15 - pair". At least the thrift store had the sense to write on the BOTTOM.Ludicrous gibs!
