John Mayer - Heavier Things SACD

Didn't see any threads here about it, so thought I'd post a warning.

This thing doesn't sound too great... infact, it sounds so bad I'm not sure what to do with it, I'm thinking of tracking down whoever was most responsible for releasing this thing and mailing it back to them. To preface, other SACD's and DVD-A I have sound immaculate, it's just this recording.

The experience of listening to this at moderate volume is similar to someone dragging their fingernails across a chalkboard, and this is on my generally warm system. The engineers added enough treble to kill a horse, and John Mayer's voice is compressed all over, making you want to shoot yourself. Really depressing as it's one of the first SACD's I purchased.

Anyway, just wanted to warn others against buying it - don't even give it a shot, thinking "maybe it will sound OK" - it won't, I promise.

Thank you kindly for the heads up because I was about to buy it.

Well, on the plus side I sent out a bunch of emails to those responsible for the album - and actually got a response from the VP of Promotions at Aware Records. Unfortunately they probably have the least to do with the recording and mastering processes, but he has been very nice and apologetic about the poor quality of the SACD release. And while not able to give a refund he was nice enough to offer to send some free discs from their other artists - stand up guy.

My real hope is he is able to prod someone further along the line into doing a better job on John Mayer's next album - because all things considered I was really looking forward to hearing Heavier Things as I know it should sound.

Won't help. SACD/DVD-a source material cannot be processed in the analog domain. They must be converted back to digital inorder to apply any processing. There are only a few preamps that have this capability and is generally used to apply bass management.
