Yamaha CR-640... I want to open it and clean it!

Yamaha CR-640 Amp seems to be fuzzy and when I turn the volume up I get crackling in the left side. Not only that but the woofers slowly rise and fall when you raise the volume fast. I want to open it, replace all the little lamps inside (they have since burned out) and generally clean the entire interior. What should I do, what shouldn't I do, and what should I look for when cleaning out my reciever?

Get some contact cleaner from Rat Shack, it comes in a spray can. I used some on a friend's CR 1040 receiver. The pots were noisy and that did the trick.
Check here for vintage parts. I got lamps for my Marantz 2226 receiver there.

"pot" is short for "potentiometer" and is the device the knob is connected to that controls the volume.

Thank you for pointing that out. What else do I need to clean? Like the RCA female plugs, whats a good way to do that? How about other circuitry?
