George, You Sound a Little Jittery Lately

That's what Max said in response to some comments I made about his suggestion to spend hard-earned dollars on Toshiba 3960.

Well, I'm 52 now and I've been having some gastro-intestinal sensations and activity that I've never experienced before over the last few months. So today I had a "consultation" with the same doctor that recently added a few years to my dads life along the same line. I have a hard date for this "procedure" (I love how they call stuff like this a "procedure" instead of what it really is), and the doc emphasized that from everything I said and reported, he feels no sense of urgency. So, I'm a little relieved, and will try and get back to my normally charming self.

Max, I wasted money on that junker, so I hope you get warts and die of leprosy.

Troy, if this procedure coincides with your two week visit, want to be my designated driver? I'll reward you by asking the doctor if you can "sit-in" during the affair and maybe he'll let you have a peek!

Glad to see you taking care of yourself George.

I just had a different kind of "procedure" myself last week, so I can definately relate!

I wish you well with your "procedure" and know that everything will be just fine!

Found out today that my trip is actually going to be put off until first two weeks in May.

Better to get things taken care of sooner rather than later.

I've had other gastro tests done before, starting around 1998. If you haven't signed up for a "procedure" called the Barium **** w/air, you want to get on that list real quick. Getting knocked out and scoped is a picnic compared to getting your works blown up with air pressure to about 5 times normal size. They don't put you to sleep for that one either. They have to strap you down so you don't fly around the room in case the airhose comes out.

You guys missed the gist. I spoke with the man, and he feels this will be largely preventive, and doesn't expect to find anything. NO SENSE OF URGENCY being the key words. But I appreciate everybody's good wishes and concern.

As far as the goodies, the man isn't coming near me until he shoots me up with something like rhino tranquilizer. I found out the hard way through kidney stones that stuff like morphine, or any of the other standard goodies don't jack me up enough. They hit me with two or three hypo's full of morphine and I was still doing a good Reagan thing from The Exorcist. Body flapping and head spinning stuff.

Well, when you're already wearing them on your head..........

    Beardog,

As far as flying affecting my health. Yes it has. I'm really nervous around pilots. I've only flown with three or four in the last 28 years or so that hasn't tried to kill us all at one point or another. We have a new one right now that I have already nicknamed "The End". It was tough to do, in light of the fact that I flew with his father for 20 of the 28. Kidney stones too. The air inside the airplane is tapped off the engines, and typically the humidity is 3%. Dries you out like no tomorrow.

I can honestly say I have never liked flying, and probably never will.

i had my first "procedure" when i was 38, it wasn't much fun. so i know what you're looking at GG. Tell them to knock you out. I did and it was better that way.

    good luck.

So, what is the recommended age to get this "procedure" done? Or, does it mainly depend on family history.

Not this kid, EVER. Like I said beforen no one ever has, or ever will, stick anything up my cornhole. If the Doc wants to know something, I'll feel around and let him know.

If it needs to be more exploratory than my finger can reach, they can shrink a high-tech military submarine, and send Raquel Welch in for a look see. I've seen 'em do it in Fantastic Voyage.

Let's hear that kind of talk when you're about 48-50, kind of feel like you might be "farming" something about the size of a softball in your gut, and all you want to do is live long enough to write a couple checks for your daughters college & wedding.

Jesse is right on with the 40 advice Ron. ESPECIALLY if there is any history in your family. Get the first one out the way and then let the doctor suggest the frequency for the rest. Might say he doesn't want to see you for another 5 years.

Yeah, WE are talking about it. HE is talking out of it.

I see your point man. For me, I'm more scared they will actually find SOMETHING, that I'd almost rather not know, as stupid as that sounds.

    Cheers,

I'm with Russ on this one. Forget it. I'll trust a lawyer before I'd trust a doctor, especially an **** doctor. And I'm in health care management and have worked with doctors for the past 15 years!

That's just me, though. I'll definitely support anyone else who chooses to have these procedures and hope those nosey doctors don't find anything except George's partially digested pinto beans from the last night's beef burrito with extra cheese.
