i`m using two mono amps on these i have the right interconnecting cable(thanks f1nut) witch is pin/blade for non common ground amplifiers.
here is the problem one of the stereo line source drivers makes a sound like two drum sticks hitting together only at loud volumes say after ten o`clock when i touch the rubber surround lightly the cracking noise stops.
could this be as simple as a blown driver????

the cabinets have never been opened i`am the original owner
the amps are denon poa6600a`s with a luxman frontend strictly two channel.mostly cd music some radio
any help on this matter would be great

what a great site this is
I thought it was fairly amusing also. The Polk Ogre doesn't always get 'it'

Since it's only one driver making the noise, I'd say that it's blown.

    Welcome to the forum!

Here's an odd suggestion, so bear with me a bit.

Sometime ago, Russman responded to similar issue. He suggested that the speakers be driven harder than normal for a few minutes, and that it might realign the voice coil. Sounds crazy, right?

Well, a few weeks ago I played an Alicia Keys album that my teenage daughter wanted to hear. I was driving a pair of Klipsch RF-3's at fairly modest volume. On the second cut, which had HEAVY thumping bass lines, I had the same problem show up in one of two drivers on the left channel. I ejected the CD and tried another selection. Same problem. I switched the cabinets side to side. The problem followed the cabinet, so it was a speaker issue.

For some reason, the thread Russ had responded to came to mind. I thought WTF - it's not going to be more blown than it already is if, in fact, the driver is blown. I put on a jazz selection that is, literally, nothing but bass, cranked the volume to a fuzz under 12 o'clock, and sat back with my teeth clenched. 45 seconds into the first cut, the problem disappeared. It has never reappeared. Your mileage may vary, but it's something to consider. Good luck!

Sorry you couldn't smack that driver around a little and straighten it up. Here is Polk's driver list. Call Ken at customer service.
