hi, i want to know what to look for in a receiver for a beginner range system.

i have the Yamaha HTR-5730SL in mind, as has anybody played around with this before....

After a receiver i guess is to get a amplifier and equalizer....is that rite?

Thanks

Receiver choices are limited only by your budget and the speakers you plan on using. With that in mind...
What's your budget and what speakers are you going to use?

An amp is always a nice addition to an HT set up, but an equalizer may not be needed. They can come in handy if you have a room that is difficult to tame, accoustically speaking.

mt current budget is to have a system as cheap as possible as i want to know more about home system and moving on.

my speakers may be the r50/rt600i. So i am not sure if a cheap receiver such as the yamaha as shown above is enough to power the speakers.

    Thanks

Look at www.pcmall.com, www.ecost.com, and www.ubid.com for good prices on good receivers.

Look at what Denon has to offer in your price range from those places. If you have questions about any of them, don't hesitate to ask.

BTW, what part of OK are you from.

    hello to all okies @polkies....
hmm....make me sound like an idiot...lol

    How abt u?

Thing abt the Yamaha HTR-5730SL is that i can get it for $150 so its a good deal for a 5.1 receiver.

Don't worry about getting an equalizer at this point, if ever. The receiver you are looking at won't support a seperate amp. Within Yamaha's line, I believe you would have to go to the RXV650 or HTR5760 (approx. $499 msrp) to get the preouts for an amp. I like your thinking though, as an amp would really bring the R50's to life. What other equipment are you or will you be hooking up to the receiver?
