Best use of dipole/bipole speeakers

The main listening location in my "entertainment room" is all the way against the back wall. I can't mount my surround speakers to the side walls. What is the best way of achieving a good surround image? I have been considering using bipole speakers to spread out the sound, but Polk's website says the bipole feature actually helps localize rear/surround sounds in Dolby Digital audi streams. How can I diffuse the sound on these channels?

Thanks.

Is there any way to move your couch forward?

Basically if you have a room where the ideal setup won't work (ie pulling the couch forward, putting dipole speakers on the sides), you really just have to play around with different setups till you find something that works.

BTW, You can change bipoles into dipoles and vice versa by opening up the speakers and swapping the red and black wires going to the tweeter that would face the back of the room. Or just wire up a switch... so even if your speakers are one or the other, you're not married to that setup.

anymore, most bi/dipole speakers already have a switch on them to make it easy to switch between the two.
