I am looking for a decent dvd player for $150 to $200. Doesn't need anything fancy, I just want better sound quality than I get with my crappy samsung. Any suggestions?

    Pickup a Denon 910 refurb.

    "Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192-kHz Audio DACs "

I got mine from ecost.com for $128, and I think there are some other Denon authorized refurb places as well.

    Regards,
    PT

A friend of mine has this:

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001H4BMU/104-0531179-7903930?v=glance

it has great pics, decent audio.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

If you dont mind a universal player .....

Sony DVPNS775V Progressive Scan DVD Player with SACD
The Sony is a good all around performer and has played every disk Ive thrown at thus far -R/+R/-RW/+RW . The sound for movies is xint (have not tried the SACD or CD playback )
For the money and many quality features it has , Id say this is worth a look . Ive been pretty happy with my unit since last Dec .

Onecall has it onsale too ... LINKY

The Samsung 841 has the WORST reviews; I looked through this when I bought mine a couple of months ago...If you can pay 50 more bucks and have a DVI-D input in your TV, go with this one:

I am very happy with it.

I agree with the suggestion for the Denon 1910.
With that said, don't get anything and just wait and spend your money on a true high definitnion DVD player next year.

get a Denon 1910. They can be found around $200 new and I'm sure for less if a few are used somewhere. Great player and definitely blows anything in it's price range away in sound and picture.

I had the Denon DVD-910, the picture and sound quality was very good but the build quality was really poor. The unit ended up lasting 6 month before it died. I’m back to using my Panasonic RP-56. I’m hoping the Panny can last till the HD players hit the market. . If you need a player now Consumers Reports did a full review a couple of months ago. The top scorer in both the single and multi disc units were from Panasonic. If you want the model#’s I can did the report out.
