Ok, I built my system the wrong way, and now I'll admit it. After spending all this money on speakers, amps, cables and still not being happy with high volume performance.

Denon 2900 fixes everything over the old Pioneer DV-414. I've actually only listened to it for about 15 minutes so far, but it's completely and utterly night and day. I wasn't expecting the digital out to even have that much of a difference, since it's still using the H/K's DTS decoder, but it completely fixed the off-axis problem I was having with the Hell Freezes Over DVD in 5.1 and is much more liquid.

On CD's low end is tightened greatly and high end has lost almost all its brightness but retained detail - well this I had expected, with the much improved (I know, not the best) DAC. Now I have to wait a week to afford SACD's and the 5ch analog IC's, pain!

Anyway, just had to post and share my joy, now I'm really gonna want an HD monitor... eek!

ps, glad your happy with your new player. they allways say, the chain is only as strong as your weakest link, and it sounds like you fixed that problem.

I'm in the same boat......the only thing that I really need to upgrade at this point is the TV, but with all that should be coming out this year, I'm definitely waiting another year.

Granted, you will always be behind the times when it comes to tryin to play catch-up with everything that is coming out, but the 2 biggest things that I've heard with relation to this year are prices dropping, and higher resolution sets.

That's awesome man! Glad to hear you made the jump into a damn nice dvd player. It's funny to read stories like this when I work with a fricken MORON who honestly says that if you use digital out of a DVD player, there's literally nothing different between a $50 dvd player and a $600 one. Yup, that's the mentallity of this guy. Good to see you got your problem fixed! Now get back to listening to them bad **** speakers!!!

Yeah, my main hangup with HDTV is that I would only want to buy a widescreen monitor, but I hate watching standard TV either stretched or with vertical letterboxing. However, with this DVP and Superbits, it might be worth it now.

I'd actually be planning on getting a Sony/XBR tube monitor, since I don't like the picture of any LCD's I could afford, and I couldn't afford any of the LCD's I'd like. So hopefully cheaper LCD's will at least drive down the price of tube-HD's more quickly.

but why? LCD RP are nice and all but it does not matter what you compare to it, CRT tubes will always be the best picture! To many people rule them out because it's "old technology" or "it's to bulky!" Waaaa. I'll take my 34" tube any day of the year.

If I was you, save the bucks and get the XS955 model. The XBR is nice but all you're adding is Picture in Picture. I dunno about you but in my setup, I can't even use my PiP so that's no big deal. The XS is identical to the XBR in every other way. Oh wait, the XBR's cabinet is slightly darker grey. :p

WTG lomic. i bet it your Denon sounds great on those LSI's.

HDTV is great. Tube TV's although big, bulky, and dang heavy.. provide such good pictures.

Yeah, a CRT always wins in the best looking category, but the nice thing about my 50" LCD proj is that I could move it by myself if I really needed to- 70 pounds? no problem. Put that against a 34" widescreen tube at about 250 pounds and throw in a flight of stairs and suddenly that LCD picture starts to look better. Of course I'll probably be getting a HD CRT for the bedroom when I can afford it :)
