How many of you guys like Pat Benetar? I've listened to a few of her CDs and I'm beginning to like her stuff.

Why do I bring it up? Well, this Youth Orchestra I'm in is almost done with our Winter Cycle Concert and moving on to Spring cycle.

We're playing with Pat Benetar with a full Orchestra, and I thought cause' I played French Horn I wouldn't get to do any fun stuff like this ;)
Rock the Orchestra!

That sounds awesome!!! What a great blend of both worlds-rock and classical.
I'm a big fan of Benatar. She's got a superb voice and a lot of great songs, even if they're a little dated coming from the 80's. A lot of classic rock from the 60's and 70's just seem to have a bit better longevity.
Still, Pat Benatar is great, and Heartbreaker and Hell is for Children should be a hell of an experience for you to play with her. Both of those songs really rock, and her live versions are even better. Enjoy, man. I'm envious.
Did you know that she actually studied to be an opera singer before moving into the rock arena? I can certainly believe that considering the agility of her voice.

Concert's tomorrow, I'm really pumped, I'll post pics later, she and Neil Giraldo are awesome. The only intelligent celebrities I have ever seen interviewed. I have never had quite an experience like this one, I mean, how often do you play with a rockstar? The music is awesome, I can't wait...

    AMAZING!!!
It was was the best if not damned near best experience in my life! It was an hour and a half of raw music, yanno' those too are awesome genuine people, and boy, can they play, quick learners, Pat learned to follow a conductor after watching twice!
I'll try to break this up into paragraphs ;) It was seriously the fastest 1 and a half (or so) of my life. There were three standing ovations. One in the middle of the concert.
There's so much to say, Neil was incredible, I got to talk to him breifly behind the stage (and shake his hand ;)) Wow, for all you musicians out there, "Play from your heart, if you start thinking about it, you'll ruin it." Wonderful they had their kids backstage, their youngest, came out after the encore. Remember these two have been married for 23 years, they were awesome people.
As for the concert? It was at Cleveland State University, in Waetjin Hall, that was one hella' decked out concert hall, we had lighting and speaker stacks hanging from the ceiling and subwoofs on the side. Look for our DVD in August, we'll be putting out the "Yes!" concert from last year and this year's "Fire Away" with Benatar. The playing was near perfect, Youth is simply a demographic denotation, not a notation of skill level. However, this is true for a ton of Youth orchestras and bands across the country. We ran through all the songs, boy, it was incredible (If you guys can't tell by now, I still have the concert rush :-P)
As a recap for you skimmers annd non-skimmers alike, it was an incredible, unforgetable and "rockin'" concert. It's what makes me love music so much.
    Rock the Orchestra!
    Peace out,
    Matt

There's a better shot of and my horn section, from left to right in the horn section,
Me (Still a junior in high school); and then Sarah K. - Going to Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music; Sami E. - Going to Oberlin Conservatory of Music; Merideth E. - going to Tulane; and last but not least Patrick - Currently at Dartmouth. We have amazing talent here, the first trumpet player on the left (by the bass drum) is going to Kurtis Institute (It's where every single Principal player of the Cleveland orchestra has gone, they only accept one trumpet player a year. And then of course, Neil on the guitar (or Gee-tar as he says it :p) and of course, Pat Benetar.

And here's my signed sheet music of my personal favorite and the opener, the access pass for the musicians, and a Guitar Pick I got straight from Neil Giraldo himself.

and that's me and Liza, Liza has a special place in my heart, I was starting to drop out of music, I had a bad audition for a music group last year and embouchure changes and it shook me bad, but I had CYO and my goodness, Liza, is a goddess. She has this energy that is absolutely incredible, it feeds off to everyone, and I got some of it, and I have gotten back into music, and everything important to me, yes, she's that special of a person.

And this one is for you guys...
I circled the speakers that are visable, keep in mind, we had tons of monitors behind stage, more subs on stage right I beleive, more monitors for pat and Neil, and there were a ton of microphones scattered around the whole stage, along with the standard two microphones above the orchestra (for ya' two channel purists ;)) Also all speakers were past or not point at those speakers, so we can get a good clear recording of the orchestra and organ and choir. (We had the choir, organ and orchestra, Pat and Neil all goin' at once at some points, it was amazing.)
