I noticed there was no xover on this, it would have to rely on the receiver...
-
Right Willow; and only an RCA input...which is what I've always used anyway...but some people like speaker level inputs; I guess higher in the line up they bring all those "extra's"..._________________________________________________

Ive been wanting to try one of these thinking it was alot smaller, for an extra sub, not get rid of my pb2... only the picture makes it look still pretty large...MY HT RIG:

Right I knew that it only had RCA input when I was reading about it I never noticed no xover. I remember Dr.Spec's review ( i think it was him) saying most peeps use rca , but I justput 2 and 2 togther
-
SVS is releasing other 'smaller' subs, with dimensions not topping over 13x13x13...
And I for disabled the crossover on my sub...so your not missing anything...
Curious though, why does it only have ONE input?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I've got one arriving tomorrow! It's gonna be a lot of fun trying to get that thing around the corners of my apartment building's narrow hallways.Polk LSi9 Mains, Polk LSIC Center, Polk RT25i Surrounds, Polk M3II Rear Surround, SVS PB10-ISD Sub, Denon AVR 2809 (as digital pre/pro only), Sony BDP-S350, Oppo DV-981HD, Cambridge Audio Azur 540C (CD), Marantz MM9000 5-ch amp, Outlaw ICBM, Panasonic th-42PX85u HDTV, Behringer BFD Pro, Monster Power HTS 2600 Conditioner

$$$$$ Every dollar here or there helps in that price bracket. IIRC from another forum, Ron discussed this and it would have added $30 in cost to final amps to include all the "goodies" that the higher up subs have and that since this was an "entry" level sub for the company, they felt the average user would have no use for those features and threw them out in favor of lower cost/price.There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Yes I know that...
I was more so asking if it sacrificed output of anykind? Since dual inputs yield a 3-db increase...

Nope, the amp can still only put out so much power. That remains constant regardless of how your inputting the signal. Also, if you clibrate the sub, line level, RCA, etc... hookups will not matter on the SPL side.
The dual inputs only increase the volume when you have already calibrated and then add the second input. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. gotcha -
makes sense...
That is a monster driver though for a 400 or so dollar sub...
I hear it needs some internal bracing though...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Just think what a triple input will do!!! -
If I'm to lazy to build one this is the one I will get
I still don't understand how it's entry level if it's good and does what you need it to do why pay more ? -

It is entry level for that company. As for why do you pay more? Same reason you do with speakers. The PB10 will blow away a lot of subs on the market, but compare both sound quality and volume at peaks to say the PB12-Ultra2, a DD-18, or a contrabass and well, you have a different story all together.
Reversing your question a bit: Polk R series speakers work just fine, why would anyone ever buy the LSi's?
Answer: For the same reasons you buy a more expensive sub. More refined/better experience. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. My only concern (which will be adressed tomorrow) is the lack of magnetic shielding. My only place for a sub is right next to my CRT TV. As far as 'entry level', just about any speaker/sub or component under $1K can be classified as entry-level amongst some of the higher-brow audio enthusiasts...but that's considering dealer markups and such. Companies like SVS. HSU, and Outlaw...by operating consumer-direct via online sales, can keep the ultmate purchase prices down by a substantial amount...so you're always getting more for your dollar than what's generally available in the same price bracket.
The simplicity of inputs on the PB10 makes complete sense....most folks use the internal crossover on their receivers/pre-pros, as well as the LFE/sub pre-out. Less parts and manufacturing equals less cost. Really...does anyone use the speaker-level ins/outs these days? Why pay for something you won't use?Polk LSi9 Mains, Polk LSIC Center, Polk RT25i Surrounds, Polk M3II Rear Surround, SVS PB10-ISD Sub, Denon AVR 2809 (as digital pre/pro only), Sony BDP-S350, Oppo DV-981HD, Cambridge Audio Azur 540C (CD), Marantz MM9000 5-ch amp, Outlaw ICBM, Panasonic th-42PX85u HDTV, Behringer BFD Pro, Monster Power HTS 2600 Conditioner -
I *still* like the line level connection over the LFE cable, particularly for 2 channel, if you have an amp that can still drive your speakers, pulling the 20-20 load...
To me, it blends MUCH better, and definetely sounds fuller...
Just an opinion, and I am using the line level connection right now on my cpu rig because it has no sub out...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I'll let you know that while the PB12 plus2 is a perfect size stand for a 32" TV, as such it will eff-up the picture (Stupid movers...) The magnets are too large to ge within 3 feet or so of the TV.There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. I call it line level, but whatever...lol
Even though I like line level (speaker wire) over LFE cable, I am using the LFE cable on the main system, frees up the amp...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

My subwoofer is 2-2.5 feet away...
Along with several other non-magnetically shielded drivers..
No issues here...
Try it and see, if it effs with it - move it...simple- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Well, we're talking a maximum of 6" from my TV, so I'm going to have some issues...I already went through all the possibilities of relocating...and nothing would work out. I'm already looking into getting some mumetal foil. Can't have your cake and eat it too. I'd move the TV over and put it ouside the left front.
