I have a chance to grab a Rotel RB-985 (not the MII) for $450. Any thoughts on the price and the unit. It is the model with the flat face..not heatsinks. Was purchased new in '98.

Not a bad price, if it's minty. You might be able to find it cheaper, if you hunt and wait. Thats a nice 5 channel amp. -
Well worth $450, if you really want the MKII you should be able to pick one up for ~$550.

I just searched Rotels site for RB985 or 985

According to the salesman at the Rotel dealer that I bought my amp at the biggest difference between the RB-985 and the RB-985-MKII is the MKII had a beefier power supply. Between the bigger power supply and the better looks (my opinion) of the heat sinks on the out side of the cabinet, I figured the MKII was worth the extra 100 bucks. But for $450 I still say you cant go wrong with the RB-985.

Well we tentatively agreed on $450 shipped. I'm just a little worried that he doesn't have the original box and packaging and it will be shipped more than half way across the USA.
Sounds like it will fit in just fine with my H/K320 and RTxxxI's.suds, suds and more suds! -
I hope your 'tentative' becomes a final before the thing is shipped.....comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

I'd say that's a good price. I have the RB-980BX stereo amp and love it. It has some pretty good sound to it. Can't wait to A-B it between it and my Myryad 5ch.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
