Sweet! Keep us posted as your Abby's beging to break in. I can't believe 1.5W/ch drove your SDA's nicely. That's insane.

So your main focus now will be on the Abby rig?

Klipschorns? LOL Becareful, a lot of KH owners say they'll be the last speakers you purchase:). The only problem with them is you need a room designed for them.

    Hi Maurice,

Wish I would have had the chance to run the SRS's with the SE OTL's mono blocked. I'm waiting on a choke replacement that didn't spec during initial voltage point tests. With 4 wpc, my bet is they would have sounded unbelievably good.

But, the deed is done. The main (living room) system is now simply the Shanling CD T-100A, OTL amp (soon to be x 2), and Abbys. The Abbys have opened up nicely. I believe the drivers in them were stiff as a board when I first got them. I now notice a much wider and deeper sound stage, and you can see a lot more excursion in the surrounds when they're driven.

I love live (versus studio) recordings. We had Bob Marley's 'Legend' album spinning last night. I don't know if you're familiar with it, but the second cut - No Woman, No Cry - was recorded at the London Lyceum. It's always been a favorite of mine. However, I hadn't played it in some time. And, I discovered last night, I'd never really "heard" it before. The crowd keeps the title refrain going throughout the entire song, in perfect time, and a harmony that quite obviously inspired one of Bob's greatest vocals. We were "there" last night - 4th or 5th row, center stage, enveloped in the crowd's sweet choir, witnessing Marley build off the pure energy and love. A true out of body experience.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the abby's? I've been thinking about building some voigt pipes since they're so easy and the only real cost is the fostex drivers which can be found here:

But mine wouldn't be nearly as pretty as those...

I purchased them from this dealer - no affiliation - on referral from a dealer in my area who did not have them in stock.

The drivers are not at all expensive to buy separately, which was a plus in my book. If I had the facilities, something like this design - or Hedlunds - would be a fun project for sure. In the System Showcase, for one of the Texas gatherings, there is a picture of some DIY Abby inspired speakers. I believe Russ and Bruce heard them and were impressed.

Nice looking design. The only enclosures I've built were Altec A7's, and not for me. My brother commisioned me to build them, nearly 30 years ago, for his band's PA system. At that time, I had a completely outfitted cabinet shop in a 24' x 60' dedicated building. Sure wish I had that setup again! I'd be dangerous.
