Yamaha HTR-5460 - Speaker Mode Settings?

The HTR-5460 manual states: "This unit is equipped with a main amplifier capable of handling 5.1 channel. Although up to 6 speakers can be connected, it is possible to select the speaker mode that gives the best sound field effect according to the number and size of speakers being used."
I have the option to set the CENTER, MAIN, and REAR's individually to either LRG, SMALL, or NONE. Unfortunately the manual doesn't describe or give any parameters for what LRG or SMALL means so I've just had to guess. I was hoping someone here might be able to shed a bit more light on this option.
I have a set of R30's as my MAIN's which most likely should be set to LRG. I have a CSi3 for the CENTER which I'm fairly certain sould be set to LRG as well. I'm a little confused what to set my R15's that I'm using for my REAR's to.

Tech do you have a sub ?
If yes set all speaker to small and forget about it -
No sub yet. My two mains are acting as subs right now until I can afford to buy one.

Thanks Toxis. Does anyone actually know what this option does when you set it to LRG or SMALL?

when set to small the bass sounds usually below 80hz would be sent to a sub. whenset to large you are telling the receiver to send all signals to the speaker

Thanks Willow. I wish they'd have included that short description you just provided in the manual!

only thing I wanna know is when you have a sub and have all bass set to go to the sub, what's the difference between setting the mains as large vs small? Can't seem to find a clear answer on this.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
