I am not sure about Dish's plans for adding HDTV in the future, but DirecTV is in the process of lauching 4 (I think) new satellites that will enable them to broadcast just about everything in HDTV within the next 18-34 months. I believe 2 of the satellites are already up with 2 more to go later this year. I know they have said that they will be offering 1500 local channels in HD, which should cover most of the US.

Dish bought Voom's satellite. HD local plans haven't been announced yet. Dish has a lower priced basic plan ($31.99 for 60 channels), otherwise pricing winds up about the same. buck less for the HD package on Dish, the NFL Sunday Ticket on Direct. Dish has the lower start up price as far as I know. We're doing free plus a $50 credit on your first bill, including an HD receiver. I have Directv though lol.

WWW.DBSTalk.com is the place to go for DBS info.

Dishnetwork has better PQ, less compression.

on high def as well? I can deal with TNT and the other getto channels being of poor quality over DTV..... but The HD on DTV is stellar and on the regular channels the PQ does suck. Until I received Fox HD over DTV I had no idea how bad regular is.

I'll be patient untill all channels are at least 480p;)

HD is the same on either one but E* has the upper hand when it comes to SD. It will be interesting to see what Charlie Ergen has up his sleeve, I can't imagine him letting D* get that far ahead in the HD arena.

Most people say Directv compresses their HD more than Dish too.

My above post should have been 18-24 months for the timetable of DirecTV going to practically all HD.

    HBombToo,
Are you talking about poor SD from DTV when watched on a HD set? I haven't bought a HD set yet so I am still watching SD with DTV and I think the pq is great.

I didn't realize that Dish had better pq than DTV. I am surpised.

SD Sat on an SD set is just fine but SD on a HD set is just horrible at times and some channels are really bad.
