RT5000 seting up to 7.1 need new sides

I have the RT5000 system what would be the best addition to the system to go to a 7.1 system, i was thinking about buying a set of FX1000 off like Ebay. if i go with the FX1000 set should i set the the L/R rear's to dipole/bipole and the the L/R sides to dipole/bipole?

what curent polk sat's might be a good side for me also

Well that's the beauty of the fx1000's. You can set them either way. My preference for action flicks, such as Matrix, I prefer the bipole setting. For most other movie types, I usually prefer dipole. I wouldn't suggest the 1000's for back surrounds. You should look for some direct radiating speakers. You could also go for a center that is timbre matched such as the cs-350, or even a cs-400 matches nicely.

I have the RT5000 system with a Lexicon DC2. I use the FX1000's for my sides and addes a set of RT20p's for the rears. I had a set of rt800's for my rear but decided on the 20P's to raise the tweeters above the seating area. If you wanted to go with bookshelf speakers, I would get a set of RT55's. Also, get a SVS subwoofer for the LFE. Logic 7 sounds great in 7.1 Good luck! Jeff

I would say move the fx1000s to the sides and get a pair of rt55s for the rears. there is a pair brand new in the box on audiogon. (no affil) not the i series though the non i series has the same tweeters and drivers.

I agree that the FX1000s used in dipole mode are great for sides.
and 55s in the rear are great.

Your getting pretty heavy in some of the best HT speakers, but to get the best possible sound out of them, you might want to look into a little more receiver than the HK335 or look into external amps.

Not to rain on your parade, just offering my .02 to make it sound better.

bipole and dipoles depend on where you place them, not what speakers they are. Bipoles work best as surround backs/rears, dipoles as surrounds/sides.

I have the 5000s and tried aw second pair of FX1000s in the rear as well as sides and didn't like it, they are too diffuse and needed more impact from the reat, they are great in the sides but I got some RT55is in the rear with a PSW650 and very happy with the outcome.
