bi-amping question

I have read much about bi-wiring on here and the consensus seems to be that there isnt really much to be gained by doing this. What about bi-amping? Would you expect to hear a noticable difference in sound? I assume distortion might decrease. Any thoughts?

Bi-amping helps you get more power to the speakers which is usually a good thing.

I don't think the bi-wire consensus is "no benefit"... some hear some, some don't. Same with wire, IC's, etc.

As for increased distortion... no... With more power available in bi-amping the amps are working at at lower percentage of their rated output vs. a single amp at a given SPL. And lower percentage means lower distortion...

Now is the distortion audible in either case? Not likely... at least not until you are pushing the limits of the single amp.

Will you hear a difference? Depends on what your current system is...

    So whatcha got?

Right now my system consists of a pair of LSi25 speakers with a NAD T763 being used as a pre-amp for 2 channel music use and a Rotel RB 1080 2 channel amp, with Monster cables throughout.

    I'd think it'd be a toss up...

While the LSi's are very demanding, the Rotel is a high current lil' bugger... I would not lay out a big wad of cash for a 2nd amp, but if you can demo one from your dealer, I'd play with it.

You can't biamp the LSi25's... or rather, you can't Tri-amp them.

The top two binding posts go to the tweeter and the two drivers; the bottom two are a speaker level input to the subwoofer. The woofer has it's own amp, so you're already bi-amped. In oder to triamp them, you'd have to take apart the speakers... you best bet would be to use the line level in for the subwoofer and get ahold of the crossover/ binding posts from a set of LSi 9's. And void the hell out of your warranty. yes, I've been kicking this around. No, I don't think I'm going to do it.

That's right... been a while since we had a discussion about "bi-amping" a powered tower... I forgot.

... but I was right about the impact being minimal... :p

Yeah, if I were the one designing the LSI 25's I would have set them up the same as the LSI 9's with the speaker level sub input reading off the same binding posts as the mid's...

Of course, it's hard enough tweaking them to blend with a seperate sub, the added pain of getting a good biamp mix on the top half would be a nightmare... But you would be able to get true biwire to the top half...

Anyone know how the LSi 15's are set up? I'm curious.

From my obviously faulty memory, the 15's are the same as the 9's and 7's... ported, not powered so bi-wire and bi-amp-able...

Actually, I was wondering if the woofer on the LSi 15 had it's own posts or went with the mid's when you biwire/biamp...
