Which one to buy? I've been researching a lot of different brands and models but not sure which to buy. I think I want one with a hard drive and I'm leaning toward one with a VCR. Truth is, I don't have a clue. Please help me.

Toshiba and JVC units seem pretty nice. You might try the dvd recorder forum at avsforum.com

My family has a Panasonic. Works great, plenty of hook ups, remote fine (though a little cheap feeling), clear navigation, clear menus, easy to program, clock sets itself up (if you have digital cable). Only odd thing is the multiple recordable format is DVD RAM. Only about 3 companies manufacture it.

Comes in hard drive and non-hard drive models.
