Gawdamighty! Why cant this guy become a victim of random violence?
I tried watching his opening monologue and it only took him 2 minutes to start Bush bashing! Then only another 2 before he brought up race.
God I freaking HATE this guy!!!

That's his "Thing" and he's playing to the audience. A couple of funny lines, but not much else.

Yes, I am a failure at cultural sensitivity and political correctness in general. Hopefully Ill stay that way!

I liked the Dolby Digital audio for the HD broadcast, sounded like you were in the audience.

Sucks, my buddies wanted us to go over there to watch them because they got a new dog... so we went. Then I remembered, I'm missing it on a beautiful HD set to watch it on a 27" Sharp off an antenna, not even cable. I wasn't very happy, but oh well... it's just the oscars.
But yes, Chris Rock is a worthless human being. Does he honestly need to yell everything or at least seem like he only has one volume? Also, this is the friggen oscars!!! Did we honestly need all the "Hey, let's compare blacks to whites AGAIN!" kind of comedy? I get so damn sick of that kind of ****. If they want everyone to think of each other as "equals" when it comes to race, why does the black community (typically) do everything they can to show the differences and how one is sooo much better than the other? Dear god.... sorry, it just really chapped my **** tonight. Hope this doesn't start a huge debate. Sorry if it did.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

the Oscars looked great in HD.
Chris Rock need some new material.. but at least they didn't get Rosanne Barr to host. Robin Williams or Mike Myers would have been better.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
you guys are over-reacting...
He only had like 45 seconds of dialogue about the Bush deal...
Yes, he usually goes racial, but I like that he plays both sides of the card. He doesn't just make fun of white people or black people, he makes fun of everyone. All these people with this 'he's racist, and we shouldn't be making jokes about race, we should be trying to bridge the gap" are getting old. There is and always will be a division among races and cultures...comedy is just one way of dealing with that very fact.
He never says anything that isn't true, at least not that I've heard.
I've never met anyone personally that will admit to liking Chris Rock, but I've seen them all laughing their asses off during his routines, especially the HBO stuff.
How many of you caught the 60 Minutes special on Rock...he's actually a decent guy...at least from what I can tell -

I would have taken Rock over those two any day. Williams has the creativity of Rock (not much)... its basically "look at me run around, act hyperactive, and make funny voices". Its on the same level as Gallagher crushing things.

Oh yeah. The dude has definitely cracked me up on several occasions. He is funny. I just get tired of the same old crap every time.
And it has nothing to do with his race. Robin Williams is the same way. He is funny as hell but cant get thru 30 seconds of his bit before hes in on the ole "Bush is the devil" thing.
Maybe Im just tired of celebrities that are insulated from reality and are basically stupid hippies, (Martin Sheenski, Richard Gereski, Tim Robbinski, Whoopi Goldbergski, Billy Crystalski et al) lecturing to me.
That and Im pissed that Chris Rock singlehandedly ruined Lethal Weapon 4.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Robin Williams has no creativity. Really? That's a new one for me. I think the guy is genius. Did you ever see his Live on Broadway? Sheer genius. Sure he's hyperactive but that's who he is. Everyone has a personality, that's what makes him him.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Seconded that! RW is genius. LOB is the best, it's always cured my mood when I need one.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Toxis,
I think if you substitute the words "Chris Rock" or "he" for the words "they" and "black community" in the second paragraph of your first post you just might have something there.
It is HIS approach, not the entire black community's.

i guesssss that's why they're comedians in the first place. not everything that comes out of their mouths is politically correct. if it was.. they wouldn't get many laughs.
most every comedian in history has offended some group at some point in their careers. it may make you mad, it may make you laugh. but that's why they got into their respective careers.
A few things Chris Rock said were mildily funny. not his whole routine. That can be said for most other's as well. But Robin Williams is more of a genius comediac than Chris ROck is.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
Well, Jim Rome of ESPN had nothing but praise for Chris Rock's routine. Therefore, it must've been pretty bad.
-
Well, if you ever watch ny of Chris Rock's concerts, you will note that he might make jokes about white people, but he rips into members of the black commuity who embarass themselves and the community. He is 50 times tougher on blacks than he is on whites.
Furthermore, Bill Cosby has chastised members of the black community for dropping the ball. I often find it interesting when people complain that race should never be brought up and then point at Chris Rock like he's whining about the plight of the black man when in fact he spends much of his time ridiculing blacks who shoot themselves in the foot and set themselves back.
As someone else said here, he very rarely says anything that isn't true. There are many ways to get a message across, and he does it cloaked in comedy.
The OSCARS host is always a comedian and they will always talk about current events, popular culture or politics, so they will always bring up something that somebody won't like, but that's how it is every night on Leno and Letterman. That's comedy.Originally posted by Toxis

Out of curiosity, where have any of these people lectured you. Toby Keith makes right-wing statements at award show all the time, but I never felt he was lecturing me. He was just expressing his opinion.
I don't get your -ski reference, but James Woods, Clint Eastwood, Steven Baldwin, Ron Silver are all very vocal Bush supporters, but I would never refer them as stupid. I disagree with them but I don't think they're stupid for their views.Originally posted by MacLeod

I don't care what Chris Rocks political persuasion is.....He just isn't funny IMO. I won't waste 30 seconds of my time watching him."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais
"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible." - Stuart Chase
"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago." - Bernard Berenson -
I agree with what mlong has said, and always maintain that position.
Do I agree with Rock's political views? In terms of support of Bush, definitely not (I've made it clear in the past that I support Bush)...but it's still funny as hell. You can't tell me you didn't laugh at the whole Gap reference...
It's not like I'm a huge Chris Rock fan or anything, it's just that EVERYBODY is alway whining about 'he's a racist' and all that. You say his humor gets old...to me, people griping about him gets old.
Sure, he's an easy target, an easy guy to hate...becuase he talks about the topics and says the stuff that other people won't say...just get tired of hearing everybody on the 'Chris Rock's a racist' bandwagon.
Anyway, I see this thread taking a turn for the worse if the political talk gets started, so that'll be it from me... -
The 'ski' is a reference to Rush Limbaugh. He always called Martin Sheen, Sheenski as in Soviet, communist.
Where have these actors been lecturing us? My God! During the buildup to the war, they were everywhere! Every stinking actor that got up at every awards show had to start spouting hippy drivel. Martin Sheen ran TV spots whining about we need inspections (like 12 years wasnt enough inspection time) and war is stupid and not to shed blood for oil and blah blah blah. Then youve got the slimy Dixie Chicks. Then Tim Robbins and Susan Surandon making the rounds. Lets not forget Bill Mahr either. "Boy how bout this President? I swear I hate this **** idiot!"
Then how about the election! They were coming out of the woodworks! You had a movie bashing Bush made by an obvious TRAITOR giving aid and comfort to the enemy. You had celebrities all over the place with fundraisers for Kerry and making speeches. Rolling Stone magazine was basically a press outlet for the Democratic National Comittee. Dont forget about 60 Minutes. 4 of their last 5 stories leading up to the election were all Bush hit pieces. One of them was even made up with bogus documents!
Dont get me wrong. All these guys have every right in the world to do this (except michael moore who is a traitor and should be hung as such), I dont question that nor would I ever suggest they should be silenced. They have a right to speak. I also have a right not to listen to them and to try to convince others not to listen to them either. You have a right to speak, you dont have a right to be heard.
Also, never said Robin Williams lacked creativity. I personally think hes not only one of the finest actors on earth but one of the funniest. But he always seems to never miss a chance to bash the right in any of his bits.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

I think it's funny how people read 'free speech' and seemingly apply that to their one side and then flip out at the stuff that comes out of other peoples mouths.....

I'm not a big fan of Chris Rock - A bit to obvious for my taste. He does have a big pair of cunchas tho - With his nig&*$r VS black folks thing. Very risky career wise.
I dont think the Oscars are a good stage for anybody. Everything seems rushed and off kilter. Not a good gauge for comic talent IMO - Look what happened to Letterman........
Ouch

Obviously Mr. Rock must have hit a nerve. Good for him. Just because it is comedy does'nt mean it can't make us think. Lenny Bruce was not always funny but what he had to say was important. Now I'm not comparing Rock to Bruce, but I think this dialoge is a good thing. While I will admit I'm more iiberal than most, I would rather listen to right wing opinions than none at all. Once we lose the right to express ourselves we are in deep trouble. By the way god bless Hunter T. I'm sure he will need it!
