Bought it today. Only watched the first 20 minutes so far, but it seems to be pretty good. I'll let you know how it turns out...

had free tickets and saw it in the theater. Waste of time. just didn't go anywhere and didn't seem very well thought out. No thanks.

Eh, I thought it was ok. They had a pretty decent story going, and the acting was better than average. I think they kind of blew it with the exorcism scene, though. It wasn't very scary, and I let out a chuckle at a couple of parts. The movie definitely had a rushed feel to it. There's a reason for that, though. The studio fired the original director, Paul Schrader, after he turned in his final cut of the film. The studio decided it wasn't shocking or scary enough, so they said "see ya", and they brought Renny Harlin on board to completely redo the film. Big effin mistake on the studio's part. Word is, is that the original version is far superior to Harlin's version. It was more of a psychological thriller than a straightout gorefest that the new one was. The author of the original book loved Schrader's version, and that should have been enough for the studio. But all they wanted was money. Well, after the new version bombed, they decided to go ahead and release the original in the theaters for a short run, then put it on dvd a couple months later. It's supposed to premier overseas on March 18th, then we'll get it a short while later. I'm really looking forward to this one, and I'm sure it'll be 100 times better than Harlin's movie.

Don't you love how they market this stuff.

"Whoops, the one we wanted in theaters bombed, so how's about all you people that shelled out cash and got ripped off, come out and spend more cash to see the other version of the same movie that we initially hated, but now love because it will make us money due to the controversy! Then, we'll package a DVD set with both versions so you can spend more money and time comparing the two versions at some geek horror fest night!"

I'll pass on both. The original Exorcist is the only one we need.

Has a DTS track. Had low expectations for this one, so I was suprised to find it a decent prequel to the Original and much better than the drivel of the sequals. Wont buy it but worth the rental.

The trailer is pretty interesting. I wasn't able to see the opening scene, though(dial up). It's supposed to be the scene in Harlin's version with Merrin having to pick 10 villagers for execution, but in its entirety. The 2 reviews really have me looking forward to the original version. I love the idea of Satan taking this hideously deformed and disfigured boy and turning him into a thing of beauty. It's an awesome contrast with the original with Regan being a beautiful young girl and turning her unspeakable uglyiness. Schrader definitely seems to have crafted an intelligent and interesting film that puts Harlin's version to shame. **** him and Morgan Creek. MC was only concerned about making money and felt that the franchise had to be commercialized to attract the younger crowd. I almost hate to buy the original version when it comes to dvd because I'll be putting more money in their pockets.
