Is there a reason I am not getting any bass from my rt800i. I have a Onkyo 600 with the speakers set to large. I have the treble and bass flat. Is there something wrong or is this normal?

Is the jumper installed between the binding posts? Have you pulled the drivers and made sure you have good connections at the speakers and at the crossover?

All the drivers work, I can feel the air moving from the port at the bottom of the speaker. There is just not much bass.

Well, like Frank said, I would wonder if your gold-plated jumpers are making solid contact between your sets of binding posts, assuming that you have the jumpers at all. Assuming that you DO have the stock jumpers properly secured, well, I'd be at a loss at that point. ;>} I guess I might try feeding your speaker cables into the bottom set of binding posts, just to see if a more direct connection yielded bass. Good luck.

Did you check your polarity? Also, make sure you have subwoofer set to "off". Even with the "large" setting, your mains won't get full range signal if the subwoofer is set to "on"(2ch). I had an Onkyo receiver before and that's how the bass management worked.

what kind of power is being used to push them? What kind of speaker wire are you using? Did you check polarity on the speakers to make sure they're not out of phase? Those three things will determine a lot.

On some models of Onkyo, you _cannot_ turn off the crossover... even setting your speakers to large, it still applies the crossover and you can only crank it down to 40-60 hz (depends on the model). Take off the jumpers on the binding posts, hook your speaker cables to the top end, set the Onk crossover to 80-100hz (experiment some) and use the line level out from the Onkyo to the line level in on the speakers.

I could've swore the 800i's were not powered towers. I used to have a roommate with a set of 800's and I know his weren't powered towers.

Oh, crap... I was thinking of the 1000i's. Yeah, do everything Toxis said.

I remembered my Onk issue... The crossover is active if either:
    1) The mains are set to small OR
    2) Subwoofer is set to yes.

So if you like bass and you want it to go to both your towers and your sub you're screwed... you'll just set the crossover to where ever sounds best to you and live with what it sends your sub/ towers. If you don't have a sub, make sure it's turned off in the Onkyo and that'll fix your problem.

You can still bypass the internal crossover...

Wire the sub the polk way.
