Hi,

Do you guys know of any subwoofers that are able to withstand the weather, humidity, sunlight, moisture and fluctuating temperatures?

Thanks

Gerald

I open my slider, my sub never leaves the house. I don't think any speaker / sub made from wood would work outside very long.

I reckon if you got like a CA or PA driver, in a weather proof enclosure like used on outdoor speakers... it could work...

I would try to put it in the shade or something over it...

I wouldnt use a HA driver though

I like to sit in my out door hot tube and listen to music. I put 2 speakers in trees about 30' away, 30 ' apart and 10' high. I also put an AR sub out in the woods centered between the 2 speakers. I located the sub on a metal table 2' high and wrapped fine mesh wire around the table and sub. I then covered the sub and table with a black heavey water proof tarp. I located the sub behind a pine tree. That was 2.5 years ago in NH and the bass is still there. The sub turns off and on depending if there is a signal from the reciever which is located in the basement. The remote controlls the reciever with a RS IR to RF converter. All the wires were placed 3" under the grass between the tub and woods.

The imaging and sound staging are incredable. I know because
I have SDAs. There are NO room reflections. The sound changes with the weather. Right now the snow and ice cover everything and the sound is very bright and reflective.

I will upgrade this summer to a more powerful reciever and better speakers.

Any recommenations for the best outdoor speakers?

    I heara bikezappa,

I think this is all fine with one think in mind, it's a complete loose down the road. Meaning $1000 spent out there is a completely gone 4 years down the road, when weather takes the toll.

I'm thinking of adding a TV to my covered porch, would I spend $350 for a nice Sony no maybe something like a $180 RCA or ? because when it goes it's trash, then back to store for another TV.

I understand, it was a risk.

I only paid $300 for the Ar sub.

My biggest fear was damage from the mice and rodents, but I have checked the condition every few months and it looks OK. Maybe the 5 outdoor cats keep the rodents down to a minium. The trap and the table keep everything dry.

I wouldn't put a TV out in the wild because of the changes in temperature and thermal shock during start up.

Anybody recommend some great outdoor speakers?

    Cambridge Soundworks????

Yes, a complete throw away, down the road.

    >>The trap and the table keep everything dry.<<

I'm more worried about the mold issues.
(Could be the Florida in me)

    I won't either, but a covered porch 3 / 4 year life ok.

Polk outdoor, seem fine for me.

build a sturdy box, find a driver that can handle the weather, and just keep the amp inside. use a long speaker run to connect them. no biggie.

That's what I was thinking. But I want to use a 12V amplifier that I got laying around, but how do I use it with the Denon AVR-2805 when there is no control wire to signal the amplifier to turn on?

How would I leave it on? I don't know if that would really be a good idea because it could be on for a week before we go back out on the boat. and my dad wouldn't want it on 24/7 since it would be pulling from the battery all day long.

Would I be able to put it on a switch or something and wire it up so when the Denon turns on the Clarion will too?

    Thanks
