will Denon AVR- power my Polks?
i just purchased a cs400i & a pair of sda-2a's to match my existing sda-2a's that i've had & loved for 15+ years. this is for a planned 5.1 system. i will certainly use it for movies, but music (sacd, dvd-a) is my raison d'etre (sorry, i don't usually talk like that). i keep buying (music) discs that i don't have a system for. i am now ready (finally!) to get a receiver (and universal dvd player) and have been in lust with the denon avr-3805 (and dvd-2910, or -3910) for some time. but...i am hearing/reading that this (receiver/speakers) is not a good match - not enough power. i know next-to-nada about separates but i sure would like to get this right - although they may stop making multi-channel music discs by the time i do. i'd like to go with the denon(s) if possible but am willing to try something else. i don't play music at ear-shattering levels but would like to be able to listen at a decent level. i would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

as I understand what you're saying. is that the system you are building will be 2 pairs of SDA's. and a CD400i for a center. to run off a Denon (or other) receiver.
to me it sounds like you would be putting to much of a strain on the recevier with 4 SDA's. I demoed the 3805. it is very sweet sounding and looking.
I don't think anyone here will recommend you run all those power hungry speakers from a stand alone receiver.. no matter what the WPC are on it.
If you want to go with the 3805 or other receiver. it would be wise to look for either two 2 channel amps for your pairs of SDA's. and let the Denon run the center OR get a 5 channel amp and let the amp power everything. those SDA's may even be to much speaker for a 5 channel amp. not sure there. Either way.. i think you're looking at adding some external amps for those SDA's... or risk a total melt down of the receiver.

I'm not an expert but it seems all the SDA systems I've seen on this site have had amps of some sort (mostly teh 5 channel variety). If I were putting together that type of a system (btw sweet) I'd at least get a 2 channel. I wouldn't risk it; plus, that should make teh SDA's pump out more.

Um... yeah:o Hence why I'm the newbie when it comes to this stuff.
So yeah, I guess I second what he said: get an amp."Nothing in this world is accomplished without passion."
