Bang & Olefson Hi-Fi

I strolled into a Bang & Olefson store at the Providence Place shopping mall this weekend to check out their stuff. Does anyone on the forum have any experience with B & O products? Great WOW factor but I'm not sure about the quality of sound.

Any opinions?

ummm. i don't have much experience with many B&O things. just a older B&O turntable. nice wow factor on looks. but way..... way overpriced in my opinion. those Danes sure know how to design stuff. most B&O gear looks sleek and cool.

oh yeah it's Bang and Olufsen ;)

There was a B&O setup at the Ritz Carlton we stayed at in DC...

    Thing looked incredible...

    But sounded absolutely like crap...

I'd take Bose over that thing...YUCK

IMO, you can do a helluva lot better for the money.

B.O. seems to be real big on form over function. Not that it all sounds bad, but as stated earlier you can do a lot better with a lot less money.

I went into a BO store here and it reminded me too much of a Bose experience.

That's no kidding! It's like they share the same recipe for the Kool-Aid for their salesmen to drink. B&O has some nice sounding equipment, don't get me wrong, but you have to realize that 1/4 of the price is for the quality, 1/2 of the price is for the style, the last 1/4 is for bragging rights. "Hey, I have a $20k audio setup, isn't it pretty?" Yeah, big deal. I do like their 6 disc CD player and how it stops within one degree of where you put the disc in. Kinda cool but again, all for looks.

I use to own a B&O turntable back in the day. It worked fine never had any problem with it. As for the sound, it was equal to the Dual turntable with the stanton cartridge I had before it. Just
keep in mind B&O equipment is not intended for everyone. They cater to a nitch group. Mostly affluent people who have little time for shoping for equipment. They want something easy on the eyes that sounds ok, but it needs to cost a lot to impress.

The not interested in best value for the dollar club. It's ok for them.

B&O looks great (especially if you're into that whole Patrick Bateman thing), but costs waaaaay too much. The parents used to have a B&O amp and I was never impressed.

I've been meaning to look for some dead B&O gear on Ebay, gut it, and put in some "real" insides, but that project hasn't happened just yet.

There seems to be two "divisions" of B&O... one where they make the glitzy looking stuff for modern homes, and then one where they actually make stuff that performs well. The only B&O stores I have seen have been the glitzy crap.
