Again, a question of personal taste. My SDA's (all of them) have silk dome replacements. But, even before that change, the Monitor 11's were a much brighter. Perhaps I shouldn't place fault with the Peerless tweeters? It might be the total design philosophy of the speaker.
The horn loaded tweeters on the RF-3's are "neutral" (a subjective term) if the speakers are properly toed-in. In my limited experience, I've never seen a speaker "disappear" like the RF-3's and just faithfully reproduce the source. Your milage may vary. -

Rots of it too Joe Jitsu!
If anybody is going to go out and grab AR-3a, AR-5, AR LST, be prepared to have scratchy tweeter and mid-range controls on the back, that you'll have to get inside and clean up. It's a pretty common problem on these 30-40 year old speakers....... but it's well worth it.
I forgot to mention good old Bozak speakers on the list. Rudy Bozak built some nice ones. I've had several pair of them, and the ones I liked the best were the B-301 and B-302. Both 12" three way infinite baffles. There are more vintage Bozak models, and they get pretty big. He never used anything smaller than a 12" woof, and in some models, I think there were 4 of them (Concert Grands). Neutral to the point of boring Bozaks are. No sizzle or bombast whatsoever. Lots of them out there so give them a try.
