I've heard it starts out good but quickly turns to crap. Not sure I'll even rent this one.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

Haha, i thought the same thing at first. I think they're reffering to the movie "Saw" and that one of its tracks is in DTS 6.1

I'll have to buy it. I love the plot. Some of the acting wasn't that great, but not enough to ruin it for me.

Phenominal twisted movie IMO. Much better than most lately. Other's try to scare you by some kid screaming like a cat which only makes me laugh. This one actually has your mind at work. I saw it in the theater and loved it. Bought it today. Seeing I don't have my HT setup yet, I don't know how the sound was but I had a feeling the voices came from the back. HELL YEAH!

God...this movie is now my 2nd favorite Thriller\Horror flick....ranking right up there behind Se7en, which is my all time favorite movie.

I love scary movies that are SOMEWHAT plausible. I realize what happened in this movie was a lot of BS, but it's also a lot of real life horror as well.

Totally awesome movie. Too bad they didn't have the budget for some better actors. That was the movies only downfall, IMO.

Hmmm ... horrendous acting. Embarrassing at times, I literally cringed for them.

    Some good frights.

Nice ending, perhaps the only point in the film that engaged your mind.

DTS was very good, nice bass and surround.

Not nearly as frightening or well-done as The Grudge or any of the other really good horror films.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can watch Saw and say that it wasn't that good only in turn to say how The Grudge was so much better. That's like test driving a BMW E46 M3 and saying "But god, that Cavalier really was nice..." I don't understand it... it had Sarah Michelle Gellar as the only known actor/actress! I'd rather watch Haley Berry attempt to act.

It sounds as though, from reading some of the board's reviews, that some of the younger folk found it challenging. There's nothing wrong with that.

One of my favorite television programs, as a child, was entitled "Kids Are People, Too." I still very much believe in that!

I've got to agree with Toxis. The Grudge wasn't nearly as good as this movie in any way shape or form. The Grudge has some very very bad acting as well.

The acting in this movie is overshadowed by the story (which in this case is a good thing). Whoever wrote this movie is pretty much a genius and a sick one at that. It sucks that some studio out there couldn't get these folks a bigger budget with some better on screen talent. Had that happened this movie would be one of the best I've ever seen, IMO.

Reverse bear trap? WTF? Who comes up with stuff like that. It's amazing and the truly scare part about it is that someone could do it. It's not like some 'spooky little ghosts' scaring the crap out of a house full of people.....ooohh scary. Stuff plausible in real life scares me much more than that other stuff. Just an opinion, I know.

You know what I liked about it?

They show you all of the clues as to why it was who it was right before they show you officially...

And then you kind of go.... w...t...f

Definetely a great movie, EXCELLENTLY written, period...

    Execution was great.

Great movie with a tremendous plot. I loved the ending. This movie only suffered from the small budget that kept it from getting any quality actors. If the acting had been even halfway decent this movie could have easily been one of the greatest suspense/horror movies of all time. I agree with one of the above posts, in that this is scary because it seemed more lifelike or that you could see something like this happening(maybe). Anyway, thought it was a great movie and a definite must see.

Damn Loud & Clear, you'ree mouthing off pretty good! You must be bucking for **** of the year award, huh?

I watched Saw the first time about a week and a half before it showed up in theaters. Someone had a ripped copy at work and I was watching it because it was a slow day. The people at work who saw it had to turn it off.

Honestly, it was an intriguing movie and only seems simple to get after you watch it through. It doesn't mean you are a "kid" or lack intelligence or mental capacity because you found it challenging to figure out. I have yet to meet a single person who even expected that ending. The plot had enough twists to keep you interested even though most of the movie was dialogue. I'm still not clear as to what acting was bad. I don't know which actors were not stars either. I mean Danny Glover who has been in many, many films including the critically acclaimed "The Color Purple" to the blockbuster Lethal Weapon hits. He's not the best actor out there but he is certainly accomplished. Cary Elwes has not only a long list of films but is an accomplished stage actor with many credits to his name both here and in Europe. Monica Potter started out on "The Young and the Restless", has quite a few movie credits to her list and has a starring role in one of the years most highly acclaimed legal dramas, Boston Legal. Leigh Whannell who played Adam, the other guy in the room opposite Cary Elwes' character, he was in the Matrix. While his U.S. Film career is quite short, amounting to maybe 5 movie titles, two being cartoon voices, he is an accomplished actor in his native Austrailia with many film and stage credits to his name.

Hardly sounds like a crap list of stars. If anything, it wasn't the acting that was poor but the directing. That wasn't necessarily poor though. It was more along the lines of what one could expect from a director's first time making a major film like this.

Anyhoo, if you were able to watch the movie and enjoy it for whatever reason then good on you. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and found the plot difficult to figure out and totally did not expect the ending. It did drag a little bit at a couple of points in the movie but overall, it was a good flick, worh a viewing.

The Grudge on the other hand, well that flat out sucked and anyone who thinks it was good well, I won't call you a kid or stupid but I will say that you are mistaken. If you want to see how good that story can actually be, check out the original Japanese version. You can get a U.S./Europe version with English and French subtitles. The original Japanese version is far, far better and was done with a great deal more of directional skill than the U.S. version of The Grudge.
