10" Titanic MKIII Subwoofer Kit?
After modding my Audiosource SW15, I wasn't very happy with it. It's still boomy, and not tight at all. I'm looking for something in the $300 to $400 range. I am thinking about the $400 10 sub from SVS, or the HSU VTF-2. But, I like the idea of putting together the sub myself, and was wondering if the Dayton sub kits sound as good as they look. The 10 in model is only $350(not sure about shipping), and should be more than enough for my living room...

From what I've read of those who own them, the 10" version is better for music and smaller rooms, wheeas the 12" is better for medium to larger rooms. The STF-2 is a good sub, but either of the Daytons will probably be a little tighter-sounding for music.Polk LSi9 Mains, Polk LSIC Center, Polk RT25i Surrounds, Polk M3II Rear Surround, SVS PB10-ISD Sub, Denon AVR 2809 (as digital pre/pro only), Sony BDP-S350, Oppo DV-981HD, Cambridge Audio Azur 540C (CD), Marantz MM9000 5-ch amp, Outlaw ICBM, Panasonic th-42PX85u HDTV, Behringer BFD Pro, Monster Power HTS 2600 Conditioner

The Dayton subs are supposed to very good.
You might also want to consider the Adire Audio Rava. in that price range.Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15 -
Forget about it. Just buy a Hsu or SVS and you don't have to wonder how a cheap DIY sub will sound. You already know that a Hsu or SVS will sound great.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Dang shack, I thought you thought that actually making something and using it had as much relevance to these conversations as staying in a "Holiday Inn"
Daytons are great little subs but the only things I have heard to compare to is the PSW10 (Dayton blows it away) and the PB12+2 (Which devoured the Dayton). Until you want to spend the $429 + shipping for the SVS PB-10, I would get the Dayton unless you find a really good deal on some HSU closeouts somewhere. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Didn't mean to piss on your sub, shack.
Here's a brand new Hsu STF-2 that's less expensive than the Dayton sub:

Keep in mind that a Hsu or SVS sub will likely have a higher resell value than a comparable DIYer.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I don't care what you think of "my" sub. I think you were giving bad advice based on his questions...QUOTE]
