CD Player problem...any ideas?

Just recently my CD Player (CEC CD3300) started making a popping sound (thru the speakers) after about 5-10 seconds into the track. It only does it once per listening session. This player has, by design, a popping sound when pressing buttons because CEC doesn't use muting circuits at it's output; but this problem is different, it pops after the cd is playing.

Any ideas??

Also--don't know if this has any signifigance, but the sound seems to have started sometime after I put a Monster 2500MkII ac thingy in the system. I realize its probably unrelated, but thought I'd mention it...

Already ruled out:
-preamp input
-cables

Is it the disc? Try a different CD. I realize you probably tried this already.

Yep. It's all discs. It only makes the popping sound once, then its ok; and I think (not sure though) that it's the left channel only, I'll try to confirm tonight. I can't help but think maybe its the damn ac power center, as its the only thing I've changed in over a year...

I'm gonna give that a shot. I don't like the way the Monster is "restraining" my power amp either--not as much slam since I put that POS in positon and plugged my amp into it. Back to the wall outlet I go....

Steve, you've got a pretty new house, get a PS audio Juice Bar, a decent power cable, upgrade the wall outlet, and get your hifi on.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Sounds like a plan. Won't be in the new house until late June/early July.

Well, swapping out the Monster didn't do the trick, but I did get my "slam" back. I'm leaving the Middle Atlantic in place and selling the Monster.

This might be a good excuse to get an external DAC, I'm thinking the MSB Link III or Bel Canto. The popping is probably in the "analog" domain and not that big a deal. It only does it once per session, in the first 2 minutes of play. Wierd.

Static on the CD maybe? Poor solder connection on the board or a crack? Input impedence of pre-amp too high for player? Some guys had this problem after modifying the output stage of toshiba players. (which is where I got the imput impedence statement).

The CD player has been in the system since Christmas 2003 (muchas gracias to my wife!), and the problem is just now starting. Nothing has been moved or anything. I don't know what to make of it. It's really very minor, but it sounds like a static "pop" only happens once, anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 minutes into the music, then the thing is fine. No other problems or side affects. Does seem to be coming from the left channel only though.

I do get the typical "click" from pressing buttons on the player--thats normal as this player has no output muting transistors (relays are used). The pop that occuring now happens on its own---no buttons pressed on the player.

maybe call their technical support? i don't know anything about this stuff, but, i'd guess there is some function that occurs after a cd starts playing, maybe even something like info sent to or changing on the display. looking at it from that perspective might narrow down where the weakness can be found. if it's associated with something mechanical a stethoscope like this could help:
