    I missed the post on the previous page where it looks like the Magic Bullet may have done the trick. If it didn't, then my suggestion might apply:

    What OS are you running?

    I'm not as good as these other guys on this sort of thing, but I have managed to use the System Restore that's built into XP and ME to get me out of a bind, a couple of times. Of course, it's also failed to work on occasion, usually when I REALLY need it..

    It's not a sure thing, but it might be worth a shot, if you haven't already tried it. I don't think it can hurt anything, if it doesn't work....

    I've turned it off on my work computer and instead use Norton Ghost to make backups to another HD. That way if the whole thing takes a dump, I can be back up and running within a few minutes, without having to reinstall Windows.

    I've found that System Restore stores a lot of virus and spyware information in it. When I'm trying to clean a machine off, the first thing I have to do is disable System Restore.

    Then it's deleting the temporary internet files and the %temp% directory.

    DOWN with system restore! :D
