Polkatese, you mentioned having a mod done to either a Panny or Pioneer DVD player a while back. Could you refresh me.

    Greg,
both of my main players are modded. Here is the linky:

    www.aplhifi.com

The first one is Philips SACD1000, which was modded with a tube output stage. It is also got upgraded Crystal DAC (doubling) all-around. It plays redbook and SACD only. For DVD-A, I use my Denon 3800 player. But, on hi-rez, I am pretty much stay on the SACD side, 95% of the time.

The second one is a Pioneer DV-563, two channels only modded, it doesn't do discrete 5.1 channels anymore, strictly for my two-channels system. The player is universal, so it takes Hirez SACD/DVD-A stereo layer only, though.

The link above will give you the inside pics of these units.

The biggest improvement is in the redbook output, which is still the typical purchases for me.

Hope it helps. Take care, bud!
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Yup, that's it. The pioneer DV-563. Two channel is my only interest with it. I use the yammy 2300 for all other formats.

    Thanks Polkatese!

    Polkatese,

Thanks a bunch for the info. Unfortunately it is a bit out of my price range right now. Looking for something a little more on the cheap (inexpensive) so I can still keep some coin in my pocket for an amp.

    Take care,

    Greg
