Congrats on the new CD player! It sounds great! At least it will after a few days of burn in. :)

Hey Max, why you gotta tease me like that? Cruel, man, cruel. Anticipation is like having a semi hard-on and your girlfriend doesn't get back in town until next Thursday. Don't worry about breaking the Tosh in -- I'll do that myself. Mail it and send me the invoice. I'm sure your mod job is makin' it sing...

Have to test fully. After that many mods it is necessary to make sure nothing dies within the first few days. After that you are good to go.

    Speaking of tease: :D

Oh, you're just rubbing salt on the wound with that picture, fella.

Take your time. The Tosh will be paired with the Fostex DIY speakers that Sid is helping me put together. Gotta find a cheap pre/amp, though. BTW, did you order the Teac "digital" amp? I'm wondering if the Teac will make a suitable choice. I'm also considering a Jolida hybrid int. amp.

Just curious -- what's the blue gooey stuff? I'm assuming it's for damping purposes?

I chew a lot of gum and it ends up in the oddest places. I ordered the teac about 2 weeks ago but no emails, no amp, nothing. I should call them tomorrow. The teac may not need a preamp. Be sure to try this toshiba with your main system just to see where it stands. My 3960 was pretty special with the Jolida and SDA's.

Absolutely! That's the first thing I'm gonna do. I want to see if it can hold it's own with a modded tube CD player.

Max -- you gonna do something like this with mine, including blue LEDS in it so it'll light up like a Christmas tree when you turn it on???

I'm afraid the holes didn't turn out as nicely as previous ones. I don't know what was wrong, I used the same tools and technique but they look a little rougher than normal. Still presentable when on the unit. I'm afraid if I put light behind them the roughness will become noticeable. I'll see.

The Teac TC-AL-700P T-amp may be no longer available. J&R doesn't list it and the Needle Doctor just informed me it was not available.

The 3960 survived 36 hours of burn in and sounds really smooth and has a great soundstage. Once it is totally cold I will check operation again. I plan on shipping tomorrow if all is good. It will still need more time before it is at its best. Mine took about 50 to 75 hours. That is half the fun though!

Great! Looking forward to receiving it. Gonna test it out on some Lizz Wright, Dianne Reeves, Keb Mo' and Sam McClain.

Keb Mo. "The Door". If you don't have it, get it. Please, try this as your comparison disc. Actually, if you don't have it let me know and I'll try and burn you a copy. This type of music (and recording) is what the 3960 is all about!

    Hey Madmax,
Sweet looking mods. How much are you selling those modded Toshibas for?

I just set up a 2ch system for my parent's bedroom. Polk RT5's, Technics double deck tape player, H/K receiver and I'm letting them borrow my Pioneer DVD player. They're looking for a DVD player right now and I may get them your modded Tosh if you're still selling them.

I have been doing them for $250 USD which includes shipping. Yes, even to Canada. If I mess one up in the process its my problem, not yours.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I'll ask my parents. If they're interested I'll get back to you.

If they are looking for functionality only and don't care about the sound (in an audiophile sort of way) a standard player would be just as good.
