Speakers--Need Advice
I have a family room that is 23'x20'x10' (LxWxH). I want to set up a system for music and for movies. I need advice as to speakers/subwoofer for a room this size. I would like to place the front and rear speakers on the walls instead of having them on the floor. One system I'm considering is the Polk RM6800. Due to budget constraints, I would like to keep the cost under $1000, if possible. Would the 6800 be sufficient or do I need to reconsider?

The 6800 would be sufficient, but what would you be driving it with?

Onkyo TX-SR502.

No. With a room that size, you'll need speakers that are much more substantial.
If $1,000 is your budget and you don't prefer floorstanding speakers, start with RTi6's for the front and rear (or Fxi3/5's for the rear) and a Csi5 for the center channel.
Take your time. The sub won't fit in your budget right now. You'll need a huge sub for your room size that may cost you as much as all of your speakers combined. Before you know it, you'll have a killer system.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

That's a big room. You should think seriously about getting something other than a HTIB type setup. They may be small and cute, and sound decent, but they always show their shortcomings in a large room.
You can purchase a very nice setup for that budget, and it will be superior to the 6800.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
