Ok, I'm running a few ideas in my head and if I find a steal of a deal, I'm jumping on it. As said in title, I'm looking for a 3-5 (7 maybe?) channel amp to run a set of 9's and C while using a Denon 3805 as a pre/pro. I'm looking to spend $800-1000 and yes, used is ok! Here's a few items I've seen on the 'Gon that have caught my eye. Opinions?

Marantz MM9000 - $750-800
Outlaw 755 - $875 shipped
Rotel 985 MKII - $575 (hey, I love my 980!)
Rotel RMB-1075 - $750
Rotel RB-993 - $800
Parasound HCA-2003 - $800
Proceed BPA-3 - $1100 obo (figured I'd offer a grand and see what happens)
B&K TX-4430 - $1000 obo
B&K AV125.7 - $900 (ebay new with $998 BIN)
Sunfire 300x2 amp - $1000 (then use 3805 to power center/rears)

I'm also up for any other options you guys know of new or used. I don't mind a 3 ch. and I can run the rears off the 3805 but for right now (and probably at least a year or more) I'll only be able to run a 3.1 setup.

Also, I know a few people don't like running receivers as pre/pro's so if you can find an amp/preamp combo for ~$1500 that has a nice remote and (not necessary but would be nice) does component video upconversion with 3 comp. vid in's, I'd be up for it. Have at it! I have the money, and need to spend it. lol

Odd... I tried to edit it but the title is stuck at that. I wanted to change it so people know I'm comparing many different amps... oh well. Off to search for reviews.

I don't know about the Marantz or the Proceed but the other choices look solid.

Sat. Audio Exchange has a special going on NAD S250 amps right now. Refurbished, but 1 year warranty. 125 X 5 or 200 X 2. Original MSRP was $2,500 now only $850. Just another one to throw in the mix and a very nice amp too (NAD's top of the line I think).

Interesting... says it's 125x5 or 200x2. Bridgeable I guess? Strange but definitely worth a look into. Refurbished which I'm not a huge fan of but if it is a phenominal deal, I might just jump on it.

I'm also looking into the B&K AVR 507 instead of doing seperates. Looks damn nice and will do all I want. Just waiting to hear from a buddy who can get employee pricing. hehe God I hope he can do it. If so, I might spring for the Ref 50 and 125.7 amp... but we'll see about price first!

Edit - Cancel the MM9000. Turns out it got sold. God I wish the title could be changed.

Yeah, that 125 X 5 is the 8 ohm rating. For the LSi's 4 ohm rating I bet it is closer to 200 X 5. 273 watts dynamic into 4 ohms. Its NAD's silver line and Class A too according to the website:

    http://www.nadelectronics.com/ht_amplifiers/S250_framset.htm

I own a B&K 317 (basically the older 307 upgraded to 507 specs). Nice receiver and powerful. Runs all my LSi HT nicely and doesn't leave me feeling short of power.

Either way I think you'll do good. I wouldn't sweat the refurbished stuff. All refurbished gear is fully retested at the factory to original specs after the repair (which is usually something minor electronically anyway).

Here's another option if you decide to go with B&K. A "used" 507 on audiogon from a seller with a lot of positive feedback points. Looks to be in great shape. Maybe make him an offer a little less than what he is asking:

That's exactly what I run, and so far it's been a great match. The Marantz has got plenty of power and it never seems to get more than slightly warm, even at relatively high levels. I will say that my LSi9's sem 'happier' when I turn the volume up a bit, but considering their 4 ohm nominal impedance, this comes at no surprise. What I mean by louder is still considerably less than 'reference' levels, in terms of calibration. I've had several opportunities to upgrade to another power amp, but I'm too happy with the MM9000. Even if I get another amp, I'm keeping the Marantz around. It has a neutral yet warm enough character that it will mate quite nicely with a broad range of speaker types, and it has absolutely no problems driving the LSi's. By the time you hear any strain, it's louder than you would ever want to listen to.

Regarding the NAD Silver Series equipment, it's believed that it is really made for NAD by high end European manufacturer Gryphon.

I have quite a bit of it myself, 2 CD players, the integrated, the tuner, and both the 2 channel pre and power amps.

I do not have the 5 channel amp, but I'm sure it's top notch. What else could you buy for that price, Adcom, Outlaw? This is on a whole other level, even from NAD's own Classic series too.

I ended up going with a Myryad MA500 that I got for $780 shipped. To bad something supposedly happened in the shipment so it won't power up now. Gotta get it looked at.
