Sweet. I look forward to your review. I know you're gonna love it, so you might as well start eyeballing a tube amp. Oh yeah, a tube CD player, too.

Don't forget to roll the tubes ASAP if the unit came with the cheap stock Chinese tubes.

sweet thing was, this came with 3 sets of tubes, original sovteks, a vintage set of raytheons and a set of groove tubes GT-12ax7-m i think the mullard remakes.. the rectifier was a jan phillips 6x4 but it had a whine or whistle when i fired up the pre, so i had a vintage GE 6x4 tube and that noise went away and sounds a bit better i think... so maybe the original tube wasnt the best... or just dumb luck, dunno

I also removed the gold trim i didnt care for,

Great set of tubes. I'm using the same Groove Tubes right now and I like 'em.

One question i have, why is it with this pre-amp when i go from left to right on the balance, either side sounds louder then center and has more bass.. but when i switch to center positiion equal left and right the volume lowers and the bass isnt near as strong? i mean turn to left strong bass, clear, right the same way.. somethings not quite right, lemme know if ya got any suggestions

The way your line amp circuit is designed, is whats causing the shift. The triodes it is using for each channel cannot be gradually shut down, going full one way or the other on the balance knob is essentially doubling (or close to it) the output on the one channel.

Quit dicking with the balance, and just listen to it. Nothing is wrong.

    Cheers,

ah that explains it, well it seems to lack bass is why i was fooling with the balance.. i mean it sounds good.. just different from what i'm used to..

    Thanks for the info,
