Sony HU's really that bad?

I was looking at this head unit http://www.cardomain.com/item/SONCDXF7715X?vq_id=none

@$204 on sale is it really that bad? If ther e is better for that price or around $220-250. Please tell me bebore i buy it. The HU need these features 3 rca out with min. 4v and needs to be black like this sony one. The only other one i might have considered was a clairion P.A. dxz845mc.

yea but its silver/brushed alm. it needs to be black.... well i have come across deh-p860mp in the pics it black. does anyone else know?

thats a great head unit as well...the p8 is half black/half silver, i dunno if thats what youre looking for but its cheaper than the 860

thanks for the help cody. i did wind up going with the 860mp as looking at the others they had to much silver. The twin silver/bushed alm. knobs is better IMOP then the half and half like the one you posted.

I own and have owned tons of Sony gear and all have worked great. I used to have a Sony head unit and after 2 years the radio quit working, but it was a $130 model. Other than that, everything else I own that is Sony has been flawless.

Sony did seem to have a lag in quality a year or so back but I think their current crop of gear is fine. Actually I would say most manufacturers have had a lag in quality every once in a while except maybe Pioneer. They seem to be consistantly good.

I wouldnt rate them up there with the P9 or top end Alpine stuff but in the low to mid grade stuff theyre as good as anything out there.

Come to think of it, Ive had more trouble out of the Kenwood gear Ive had and I dont consider Kenwood to suck in the least.

The new sonys are coming with 24 bit Burr Brown DACs too

I had a sony, loved it. Now I have an Alpine, and I'm thinking of getting one of the new Sonys with the quality DACs when they are more available.

There is nothing wrong with Sony headunits. The lower end ones are, well... low end but once you get it their mid level unuts they are pretty nice.

I actually like the 7 band EQ and the DSO (level 1) - haven't seen another head unit that can lift the soundstage like that on its own....

you probably had the old EX line which was pretty good stuff. ive heard one other person besides you say good things about the new sony head units but im still skeptical. just because they have a great converter doesnt mean theyre using all good materials inside...but it is a start

Well, like I said. Sony took a beating a while back for quality control issues. I doubt they wanted to keep a bad rep. Theyve been top shelf goods for too long so Im sure theyve stepped things up again.

Again, my computer, digital camera, camcorger, DVD player, home stereo, VCR and TV are all Sony and although they are several years old they have work flawlessly.
