Don't forget to get in on their super-de-duper tweeter, it plays in the microwave band!

Check out the "magic ring" to elevate your speaker cables off the ground. $100 for the standard size and $300 for the large. Now I'm not saying that elevating your speaker cables may or may not have sonic benefit but at that price for a piece of PVC tube glued to a flat base:eek:
Man if people are buying this stuff at those prices I'm in the wrong business. -
Another application is to place 3 Magic Rings in a wide equilateral triangle
Me thinks somebody has been watching too much of the Discovery Channel's "Secret of Egyptian Civilizations" or something:D -
Machina Dynamica is actually a local VA based company that makes bar none the most hardcore isolation platform for turntables/gear that I've ever seen.
NIMBUS
They also make some other isolation gear that is pretty nice, that is, if you're into that bracket. I saw this a long time ago and the demonstration was a little funny, but cool. He would pound on it with a large rubber mallet, very hard, while a CDP was being used, and it didn't skip a beat....literally. It's neat how it works.
It's a shame it's all thrown out the window with ridiculous things as the aformentioned "Intelligent Chip" and another winner "Brilliant Pebbles".
Just as a side note they have been involved with CES since 1996, so they must be appealing to some people.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Now that's actually a serious looking product. I missed it the first time I visited their website.
My guess is that they have had some success and credibility with the isolation stuff and are adding "accessories" based on their reputation.
"brilliant pebbles"? These must be the ones that have the edumacaction and certainly aren't "dumb as a rock". Good reason to have a pet rock I guess...LOL... -
Bob Crump(CTC Builders/Parasound/TG Audio) uses a Nimbus, and is a big fan. You might see something familiar in this picture....my amp.

One of the ads for the old AR turntable described pounding on the base with a mallet while a record was playing. The platter was so well isolated from the base that the needle would not leave the record while pounding.
That was around 1967-68 and that turntable ran you a hundred bucks. How much is one of those "isolation" platforms?
George Grand (of the Jersey Grands) -
Another old Ar turntable test was to put a 45 rpm record completely off center and play the record with the tone arm. The arm stayed in the groove.
Gandolfs staff is used to bless all the chips before they are mailed to all the suckers out there that buy this crap. -
I can't see how sitting anything over the disc could "upgrade" it. I find the pebbles interesting though. The super tweeters would be dangerous and require FCC approval if they could actually produce frequencies in the ghz range. Furthermore, where would this ghz signal originate from? Someone should buy a pair and file a lawsuit. I think they would quickly state that frequencies in this range are not being transmitted.
madmaxVinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
You've got to be kidding me:
"Machina Dynamica now carries the amazing Intelligent Chip, an emerging technology device that improves CD sound quality in the blink of an eye. The Intelligent Chip is a thin, 1-inch square orange wafer that automatically upgrades any CD/DVD/SACD disc when the Chip is placed momentarily on the top surface of the player while the disc is playing. The sound of the upgraded disc more closely resembles the sound of the orginal master recording, with less congestion, more information, greater dynamic range and more air. The disc upgrade is virtually instantaneous - and is permanent. The Intelligent Chip is available in two models - the GSIC-10 ($16) upgrades 10 discs; the GSIC-30 ($40) upgrades 30 discs. " -
OK, first off, there is no way in hell that that "chip" can work. FCC guidelines mandate that ANY laser product marketed for consumer use be sheilded to prevent consumers and property from being damaged by the laser. If the apparatus is sheilded then how in the hell can this thing be "laser activated" when there is no laser contacting it in anyway?
It'd be worth buying one at $16 bucks just to crack it open and see whats up.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

After looking over that entire site, only the vibration, isolation platforms have any merit to them at all. The rest is mumbo-jumbo touchy-feely **** meant to separate a fool and his money.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I'd bet you it's empty... At best, it's a small RFID or TIRISS tag...
I love that the cheap **** plastic prevents it from losing it's power... So a laser can get through the CD, through the shield, and through the top of the CD player case, activate the thing and have some magic transformation but a piece of clear plastic can protect it from the outside world... Hmmm :rolleyes:There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -
I honestly thought the product(s) were a joke.
I didn't know that company made real stuff.
That is slightly disturbing.
I need to start marketing baby powder... errr.. I mean magic hi-fi dust. -
Don't you guys know that you can change the 1's and 0's on a CD by placing a piece of plastic a couple inches above it?! Its common knowledge in the computer science field.;)

I just sent an email to order this chip...
I can't wait until it gets here. I've spent a bunch of money on speakers and stuff, looks like this will add that final touch to make my system sound perfect.
WAAAAAAAAAAAA!:D
Actually, I really did order the cheaper one becuase I want to crack it open and see what's inside...I'll post pics when I get it in... -
PM - I was going to do the same thing, as it's only $16. I figured at least give it a try, then post on every board I prowl about my findings....with a picture of the inside attached. I can't wait to see whats inside the intelligent chip. It's probably a solid hunk of plastic that has been "subjected to radiation that will release when you put it on top of a cd player" or some bs like that.
-
Any of you guys that are considering taking that thing apart had better remove all pets and children from the room and cover your head with tin foil and wear your 3-D glasses......just to be on the safe side. We don't need to lose anybody here.>

Also enhances the reverse slush pump overdrive residual nuclear waste schraeder bleed-off valve function...
 -
Just an update. This guy seems serious, and it's really... really scary to me.
Here is some info on the internals of the chip, so none of you actually have to buy it. Looks like a plain jane, unused circuit board to me....
When asked to back up their claims with theory Geoff replied:
"Backing up claims with science can be a fruitless undertaking, I think the best bet is to wait for reviews to come out. There should be enough support for the chip in terms of results that all the clamor for scientific explanation will subside, at least a bit. I tend to disagree with the premise that the distributor, the dealer or even the manufacturer must reveal the operating theory. We as consumers do not expect or demand this explanation for TVs, CD players, exotic automobiles, cell phones, only in these hi fi debates is there this notion that the theory must be provided or else potential customers won't but the item. Quite irrational really IMO. Of course, voodoo and pseudoscience labels will pop up, but they will pop up even with the best effort to explain these types of exotic audio devices, good examples are Shakti Stone, Shum Mook discs, Brilliant Pebbles and Bybee filters.
When I demo the chip I use a common technique usually referred to a A/B or A/B/A to home in on what the chip is doing to the sound. For most people it helps a lot in evaluations like these to have a CD one is familiar with, obviously. Consumers should not be too concerned with all the details of how the chip functions IMO; as long as they're satisfied that there's value in the improvement, assuming they hear an improvement; same as for any audio product.
Regards, Geoff
When asked if testing was done double blind:
"another point - it's not as if I am selling a cure for cancer or even a new fangled amp, or plasma TV - its a tweak, a very inexpensive one at that, actually the price of a bad meal. It is very silly to be expected to defend it, substantiate claims or any such thing. You do see my point, don't you? As far as Bling testing is concerned I don't think it is necessary; you either hear something or you don't. There are many reasons why a particular person will hear something and another wont. Too complicated to go into it. It prob helps to be trained to know how to listen, but that is about it.
Geoff
He adds to his lack of scientific backup by adding:
"Bill - the problem with my "divulging" details of the chip are (1) while I might think I understand the underlying physics of how the chip works to improve the sound on a CD, I also think I would be unable to "prove" to a sceptic that my understanding is correct - even to (or especially to) a PHd in physics (been there, done that! haha); and (2) I have promised people involved with the mfg and distribution of the chip that I would not talk too much about "My theory." So this is why I am reluctant - at least until formal reviews on the chip come out (should be soon) - to discuss details. This is also why I have chosen to "dummy up" my web site and simply talk about the basic idea, at a high level, and refrain from discussion of the operating principles. I realize this might not be the best way to attract some potential buyers. On the other hand, as I found out with brilliant Pebbles (my own product), another very controversial item, that publishing a "white paper" describing my theory of operation of BP still caused heated debate, rather than diffuse it, even scorn, as many people think I must be incorrect or whatever.
Brilliant Pebbles, like the chip, is based on relatively obscure physics in crystal structures and of quantum mechanical concepts. Actually, like the Pebbles, the quantum dot can often be a crystal. The Pebbles, esp. the Miko version, is innocuous looking, the chip is very innocous looking.
That is about the best I can do, things might change down the road, hope this is some help.

That didn't help at all. Bunch of mumbo jumbo and dancing around the issue. The biggest point that I have a problem with is that he calls this a "cheap tweak" and it isn't. Even if it works, it's 20-40 bucks to for the capability to improve 10-30 CD's. I don't know about most of you but I have over 500 CDs and I know several here have collections in the thousands. For those people, that is NOT a cheap tweak by far. Especially when this asshat can't even explain how this chip, that supposedly expires from all usefullness after 30 discs, cannot even manage to explain how the stupid thing even differentiates from different discs.
Also, if this thing is disc dependant why do you have to put it one the machine and not the disc itself?

I find it slightly amusing that this is even being debated.
I seriously still think that the whole thing is a joke. If I were him, I'd play it all the way up just to see how people react (and he is).. and the whole time I would be laughing my **** off (and I bet he is).
