We just got a DVD Recorder, it's a Pioneer DVR-720H-s. Been playing around with it but can't seem to get it to cooperate.

When I put a music CD or DVD in should I be able to copy it to the HDD without having to play it right through.

Who else has a DVD recorder? What are your experiences?

To the best of my knowledge you can not record a pre-recorded CD or DVD to the harddrive. It's copyright protection.

What about a burnt CD? Should that be able to work?

I don't think you can record any format to the hard drive except from broadcast signals. However, all it says in the ad's is, "Internal dubbing of copy-protected DVD's is not possible." Read your owners manual, I'm sure it tells you in there.

I'm not sure what I want but in order to record some TV shows, is there a product that records on DVD's instead of a VCR and tape?
I was looking at a Toshiba D-R2 and a Panosonic DMRE55S at hh gregg. They run around $250-300. Is this all I need just to watch a few shows that I may miss when I'm out? Thanks for the help!
