Well, my FX500i's came in from Crutchfield on Monday and as soon as I got home I took them out of the box and put them on the walls. For me it was a quick installation because I was already using bigger screws with my old Yamaha surrounds than what Polk ships with the 500i's and they were already screwed into studs. So, I just quickly took the old ones down put the new ones up in less than 10 minutes. Boy, what a difference! The sound is much more full but more transparent at the same time. It blends in much better with the RT800i's and CS400i that I already have.
I have the speakers mounted on the back wall of my room and I am still playing around with Dipole vs. Bipole mode. Bipole seems to blend a little better but I need to do some more listening to make the final decision.
Now all I need is an RT35i to put in the rear center and I will be set. Still hoping to find a CC open box or some Ebay bargain!

You could also consider a CS245i for the rear center. Just a thought.

I have thought about that but it would be royal pain to mount that thing. I really do not want to have to put a shelf on my wall to mount it, so that is why I would like to use the RT35i...

Hey, congrats, but remember have fun! :D

BTW, why not 7.1 instead of 6.1? with 2 35i's?

I could do 7.1 but it would not be a "true" 7.1 as my receiver, a Yamaha RX-V1200 only supports 6.1. Actually, at this point there are not a lot of receivers out there that support "true" 7.1 nor is there a lot of DVDs that support it yet either... When it becomes more widely available, I may upgrade to a receiver that supports it and migrate. That is why I will probably buy a pair of speakers and save one until later.

Actually to tell you the truth, there is no such things as a format of 7.1. Dolby EX is really 6.1 with the rear surrounds matrixed out to 2 channels. Just one word of advice that I have picked up about 6.1 versus 7.1 is that 6.1 can sound less full than 7.1 does. This is because 7.1 creates a stereo image from the two speakers while just one directly. But I understand that your receiver can only handle 6.1, btw, mine has DTS-ES matrix and Dolby Matrix 6.1, so I don't even have the ability to do 6.1 or 7.1.

Good Luck with whatever decision you make! :)
