I'm asking a very basic question as I am trying to educate myself. Bear with me. Exactly what is the difference between a power amp and an integrated amp? I would like to add an amp to my home theater receiver a Yamaha RX-V955 but am not sure what I need. My assumption is that a power amp is the solution still I'm not sure. Please help.

Thanks, cubdog

Hey dog.......you are correct. You are looking for an amplifier. An integrated, like my new Muscial Fidelity A3 :D , is an amp and preamp in one. If it had a tuner it would be a receiver. What you have is a tuner, preamp, amp and surround sound processor in one, aka a home theater receiver.
