Worlds Largest Grizzly, (caution grizzly picture)

Subject: BIG bear!
Read the story before you look at the pictures!!!! This is amazing!
The following (first two) pictures are of a guy who works for the US Forest Service in Alaska and his trophy bear. He was out deer hunting last week when a large grizzly bear charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy unloaded his 7mm Mag Semi-automatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and shot it several times in the head.
The bear was just over one thousand six hundred pounds. It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder, 14' to the top of his head. It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world. Of course, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Commission did not let him keep it as a trophy, but the bear will be stuffed and mounted, and placed on display at the Anchorage airport (to remind tourist's of the risks involved when in the wild).
Based on the contents of the bears stomach, the Fish and Wildlife Commission established the bear had killed at least two humans in the past 72 hours. His last meal was the unlucky nature buff in the third picture.
The US Forest Service, backtracking from where the bear had originated, found the hiker's 38-calibre pistol emptied. Not far from the pistol was the remains of the hiker. The other body has not been found. Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly with four shots they ultimately found four 38 caliber slugs along with twelve 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body, it only wounded the bear and probably angered it.
The bear killed the hiker an estimated two days prior to the bear's own death by the gun of the Forest Service worker. Think about this If you are an average size man; You would be level with the bear's belly button when he stood upright, the bear would look you in the eye when it walked on all fours! To give additional perspective, consider that this particular bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story house and look over the roof, or walk up to a two story house and look in the bedroom windows.

Christ, did we really need that last picture? Seriously, man, I'm trying to eat cookies. But, man oh man. I couldn't even imagine a bear that huge. Freaky...
-
Take that last picture down. It has nothing to do with the damn bear anyway.

Well, I think I might carry around a Rocket Launcher with me whenever I go hiking now.
-
Do you think a rocket launcher is going to stop something like that?

Gawdamighty!
Bears are about the baddest creatures on the planet and nearly bulletproof as well.
Handguns are worthless against one unless its a .44 Mag and you get a head shot. Shotguns are worthless too on big bears. About the only thing that work are high powered rifles.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Yeah, it's cool, but the kill was made about 4 years ago and has made the rounds.

Imagine those people that got eaten by that thing. One moment they're out walking enjoying the scenery and the next...ROARRRRRRRRR...this f***ing monster comes right at you and you realize you're history!
It's a damn shame it had to be killed though. Something so rare as that.
JohnNo excuses! -
Call me a tree hunger, panty waste, whatever.
Made me ill to see this thread, I wish I had never opened it. A absolute **** waste of a fine animal.
Cheers,
RussCheck your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
If that thing was charging me I'd do the same. Beautiful, but damn deadly. We don't have Grizzlies in Colorado anymore, but we've got some big Black Bears and Mointain lions. I don't go into their territory unarmed, it's foolish to do so. Every year there are atleast 1 or 2 hikers, joggers, etc. that get mauled or killed. A jogger looks like dinner on the move to a mountain lion.
Don't get me wrong, I'd never shoot at a bear, cougar, linx, or other predator unless I felt the need to protect myself or my family.
FWIW, There wass a HUGE polar bear on display in the airport in Anchorage. I went through there on my way to Japan. I believe it was about 10-12' tall. Scared the crap out me just looking at it dead. -
I agree with Russ. An absolute waste of a fine, fine animal. But yeah, when that thing charges you, you better have enough ammo...

I agree with Skeezer and Russ. I wish I never saw this thread.Graham

It's not that bad, now Spydie's Hemmorhoid (sp?) thread, that was bad.

I wish that it could be on display alive at the zoo instead of being dead. But, I can't blame the guy for that kill. It was better to do it than to end up with your a$$ chewed out. If a bear or some big **** wild animal got into my home, I would try like hell to kill it.
Now...what do you think that bear was doing? Going after someone in HIS house (aka..the woods). You go into their house, you're open game!
Again, it's a damn shame it was killed!

Well thats not quite the same thing. The forest isnt one bear's house, its a pretty large community spanning millions of acres where oodles of different animals wander. Kind of like a city.
I also disagree with this line of thought. We (humans) are also part of nature and have as much right to roam around the forest as any other animal. And like any other animal, when attacked we have the right to defend ourselves.
I do agree its a shame the bear had to be killed, and I would be mad about it too if the bear was sleeping or lying in the sun and some redneck came up and shot it but I see nothing wrong with a man defending himself from the baddest land animal on the planet!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
