I'm wanting to replace the tweet in my CSi30 with this:

Does anyone have specs on the Polk silk dome tweeter, or know if this Audax will work? The Audax is brighter, but also very clear and more detailed, also much cheaper than a Polk replacement.

To find a replacement you need a driver with a similar impedance curve, sensitivity and frequency response.

You might be able to get that info from Dennis Murphy if he still has it. He is very helpful.

    Is that my old CSi30?

If cheaper is one of your driving forces, then why ask why? I'll bet your experience is a little different once you mount that in the CSi30, but knock yourself out.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Hi Graham,

Well, it's one of them. I want to experiment with replacing the tweeters in all 4, currently used as surrounds, to match my mains and center that I recently built. I can try one, and if it doesn't work out I can put the originals back in. Kind of wanting to do it for the sake of learning as much as anything else.

Thanks for the link, the info will help. I also have a pair of RTi28's in the closet that if I don't sell, I'll try Mr. Murphy's fix.

Good idea. Consider downloading Speaker Workshop http://www.speakerworkshop.com/

You will need a mic like a cheap Behringer or you could make your own, and build the jig. That way you can use any tweeter you want and design your own crossover.

What speakers did you build? The only ones I can think of with those Audax tweeters are the Adire Audio KITs.

Thanks. I think you recommended that to me last time. I'm more into the inner workings of speakers now. Got a lot to learn.

That's them. I only have one tower and one sealed center done so far. Love the sound though. A little bright for my tastes but they are very nice for the price paid. I had an issue with the tweeter polarity, which is shown two different ways in their instructions. It is actually supposed to be + amp to - tweeter lead. I switched them last night and they really sing now. Good, punchy bass with the twin 8"s.

Glad you like them. The KIT281s are very popular, almost bought them myself. The kits that AudioXpress tested also had the polarity reversed. It's too bad it hasn't been worked out yet. You might want to burn some sweeps to test the crossover and know for sure. I saw your post over at HTF, thanks for getting the info out. Adire will probably respond.
In case I hadn't mentioned it before, I recommend reading the Loudspeaker Design Cookbook by Vance Dickason.

I'm building some DIY speakers with the new Adire Extremis driver. I cant wait to hear them, they will be very unique.

Those are sweet. I almost went with the Extremis 6's. I figured the 8's move the same amount of air and are cheaper, but the 6's will be superior I believe. I saw that excursion video of them. Wow.

Thanks for the tip on the cookbook, I'll pick up a copy. I'll checkout the workshop too. Have a good one and please post your impressions of the speakers when you're done. A lot of interest in those drivers.
