Ok, I've compared these two center's against one another and they appear to be pretty equal. I guess the question is, which sounds better ? I'm using R50 up front, R30 for surrounds and psw202 sub. My a/v receiver is an Integra DTR6.5

Any thought's ?

I have the CS1 and it sounds superb. I tested it with other center channel and for my budget, this was the best one. SInce I have set up my fisrt Home Theatre, I wanted to start with a reasaonable budget.

If you are interested in a CSi3, check out my thread in the Flea Market - could even pick it up to save on shipping if you visit San Jose ever. Save you money over buying a new of either one.

Haven't had a chance to hear the CS1 so can't give a comparison unfortunately.

Can you put an R20 up front? it looks pretty timbre matched so far, why ruin it?
And from there you can have 6.1 and not worry about having the small R series center. :)

    Mjr7531,

While shaggypud could certainly use an R20 as a center channel, I don't think that would be much of an improvement over the recommended model (CSi20) since it's still a single woofer solution.

I really don't think you could lose with either the CS1 or CSi3 and they can usually be found for about the same price (online, at least).

    shaggypud,

If you consider upgrading away from the R series in the near future, the question boils down to low-end Monitor line (CS1) or the mid-tier RTi series (CSi3)? Let that thought dictate which center channel you buy.
    Home System:

    Receiver - Onkyo TX-SR601
    Mains - Polk Audio R50
    Center - Polk Audio CS1
    Rears - Polk Audio R20
    Subwoofer - Aiwa TS-W60
    TV - 32" CRT Sony KV-32HS500
    DVD player - using HTPC
