Dear Polk

Considering what RTi speakers are going for on ebay USED; clearly, you discontinued that line before it was time.

are you complaining that they are going to too much of too little? and i take it you are referring to the rtxxxi line because you were looking for a cs400i?

It just seems to me that when you look around at stuff with the older tri-lam, rtxxxi yes, they hold their value well and they allways sell. The only thing that does not sell well is the old 175's that you got for free from everywhere when you spent enough

yes but what I am saying is there is still demand. It is not just holding value, there is still demand. It is a shame they dont, instead of growing the line into new products, rotate products year by year. Kinda like the the electronics companies do by changing led colors and going black to silver.

I dont mean it negativley, just trying to spike a conversation.

I'll tell you what the real shame is. The fact that they stopped making SDA's which still put to shame anything they have made since and most of what else is on the market today.

Bring back the SDA = Beat a dead horse.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The RT series resale value is determined by the first version of that design.

    IE - RT800 depicts the RT800i, RTi70, and the RTi8s resale value...

All of them will/do sell for the same amount.

So in a sense, the RT800i, RTi70, and RTi8 are gonna/do have some terrible resale value.

    Airplay,
I mentioned that just in case he thought they were discontinued because of the move to Tweeter...

    Anyways...

The only RT models that have held their value is the RT7, RT55, RT55i - the RT16 might, as the RT20p might as well..

But the RT7 and RT55, 55i hold their value like nothing else current by Polk...

Heck, the 55i still sells close to retail at times...

You wont see the RTi38, RTi6 doing that... ;)

hmm you really think the 800 series has poor resale value? What did they sell for retail? $800? They seem to sell for more than 50% retail. I consider anything used that is 50% or more as good.

The RT800 has GREAT resale value. I never said it didnt.

The RT800i which is what? 2-3 years younger than the RT800's resale value is terrible. Then the RTi70 which is 3 years younger than that line has a INSULTING resale value. The RTi8 is only a year younger, and still is current, so the resale value hasnt been shot - yet.

I guess what I dont guess is what do you consider terrible resale value. "2-3 years younger than the RT800's resale value is terrible"

What my point is, as the first release of that version, as it ages, and its demand gets less and less ---- the value will continue to decrease and decrease, and every release after it will continue to follow it.

Because to the general public, that just goes on ebay and does a search of Polk Audio. They dont see releases. They see an indenticle pair of speakers that look different. Granted, they may like the looks of one more than the other, and will buy that one. But, they will NOT pay more for one thing that is just like the other.

yes and we all know how a speaker sounds can be decided by the specs alone....hell why even bother to go out and listen to one, you can tell how it will sound from a spec sheet.
